I own this CPU and I was wondering about the future of memory, MOBOS, and periphials as they apply to MY socket: 754. The concern that I have, which most of us have had, is if I will be able to utilize my processor with these new technologies. I keep reading that the chip I have has the memory clock on the chip itself so it is capable of using much faster speeds (memory clock = cpu clock speed or 2.2 Ghz?). Could I one day really have a "FSB" of 2.2 Ghz??At the moment I use PC3200 and run at 400 Mhz FSB. There is faster ram ofcourse, but what is preventing me from buying even faster Ram like (for the AMD platform i the furture) something clocked at PC3500 (216 X 2) or 432 Mhz (presumably in sync)?
Ok, so then what about DDRII? It runs on lower voltage but has considerably faster advantages, so will it be just a matter of buying a MOBO later on that has these DDRII slots and popping my 754 slot CPU in it??
This Cpu has the memory clock on the CPU as opposed to being on the board itself, is this the future of CPUS?
How will PCI-Express or PCI-X affect my future outlook. Do you think many board makers will reconfigure their boards with slot 754 for the new PCI interfaces?
Will the new PCI interfaces do anything for ATA and SATA speeds in terms of the bottle necking that happens with the current PCI bus speeds?
thanks for tackling some of these crytal ball questions.
XP 2800+ (thor B); Asus A7N8X Delux; Maxtor 40/120 gig ATA 133; AIW9700 RadeonPro; Corsair PC3200 (2X256); LiteOn CDRW; TDK 420N DVD+RW; Antec Case; Antec SL350; many many fans; WinXp
