Current System:Gateway GM5470E
Current(OEM) MOBO: ECS-MCP61PM-AM (Socket AM2)
Current(OEM) BIOS: Phoenix 6.0 - 4/27/07
Current(OEM)CPU: AMD Athlon 64x2 4000+
Current Memory: 4Gb 667Mhz
Current OS: Windows Vista PHE -32-bit (All Current Upgrades)
I'm upgrading my 2 year old multi-media computer to get a few more miles out of it.
I recently bought an AMD Athlon 64x2 5600+ Brisbane 2.9Ghz CPU. Plug and Play, right?
Unfortunately, the famous online retailer mislabeled this CPU (online product description) as (Socket AM2) when in fact it is a (Socket AM2+).
My MOBO promptly rejected the 5600+.
I'd appreciate any help in choosing a REAL Socket AM2 upgrade CPU as a replacement for the 5600+. I'm going to exchange it. I hope there is an upgrade CPU (available) that doesn't require a new MOBO, etc.
