AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.1 GHz vs AMD Phenom X4 9750 2.4 Ghz

Hi,

I am looking for a temporary CPU upgrade which I'll be using for about a year, but due to my dated motherboard (foxconn 520a), I'm very limited for choice. I'm currently using an AMD Athlon 64 X2 and I am considering upgrading to the AMD Phenom X4 9750 but I was concerned with it having a lower clock speed. They're only about £30 on ebay so I was wondering if any of you could tell me if I would have a performance increase with it?

Phenom I chips were pretty horrible. Chances are, your cpu will be faster in most situations.

K8 x2 was faster than Phenom I. It wasn't till Phenom II did things improve. Phenom 1 would have only been an upgrade for those coming from single core or really low end X2's. 6000+ was near the top for K8.
