I recently got a new Athlon 860k for my Gigabyte F2A88XN-WIFI Motherboard (Updated bios to latest bios) and I am getting drastically different temperatures between programs.

The bios shows around 45-50 degrees Celsius idle
HWmonitor shows 72 degrees Celsius idle
The Gigabyte EasyTune6 Utility shows 35-38 Celsius idle
Speedfan shows 35-38 Celsius idle

Not sure what to trust, I think other people are having similar issues. My cooler is the Seidon 120v with two Corsair SP120s and Arctic Silver, so my temperature shouldn't be 72 degrees. What makes me nervous is that when I load my chip I am reaching high 80s in HWmonitor, and high 90s to low 100s when I overclock, and I shut it down after loading it for a few seconds because I don't want to fry my chip. I don't know what to trust and I really don't want to fry my chip. This issue never happened with my 750k, and I have no clue if it is correct for my 860k. Would updating chipset drivers help?

I don't think its likely that its actually running 72 degrees idle, I think your pc would be crashing if it was really running that hot idle. I think the 45-50 is probably more likely than any of the rest. Reinstall HW monitor and see if it reads different temperatures than 70 degrees.

I think its your motherboard. This happened to me once. I once got some dirt in my motherboard by playing with it outside in the mud...when it was raining and my cpu temps were really bad. there is most likely a lot of dirt in your motherboard.
