AMD Athlon II 620 AM2 or AM3?

I have an AMD Athlon II 620, and the website says the socket is AM3. However, when I looked inside my computer, the socket said AM2. Does anybody know which one it actually is?

The processor is AM3. It is possible your motherboard supports both AM2 and AM3 sockets so that might be why you see AM2 there. If you want to know for sure, let us know the model of the motherboard.

The motherboard is M2N78-LA (Violet)

That board supports AM2+ processors. AM3 CPUs work in AM2+ motherboards.
