You'll hear a lot of stories that 3rd gen run hotter which they do, but that's just these boys having there stories half right. 3rd gen intel's have a tad more performance so at a slower clock speed they give you same performance as 2nd gen intel's clocked a tad higher, therefor there temps equal out. In long run the 3rd gen should last longer since your not running it as hard

That's statement assumes a lot. We have NO idea of the longevity of IB CPU's yet. At any rate, saying that it will last longer just because you don't have to run it as hard is basically a moot point. If the Vcore on a SB stays below ~1.4V and the temps are kept reasonable, it'll outlast every other component in the system, and will definitely last well beyond an upgrade cycle.

yes, intel has been good this long, lets assume IB will lay a egg, your statement is moot. Altho your right the statement was more my opinion and common sense over hard facts. but anyway, that was something added at the end, the first portion is correct tho.

now guys are suppose to have more common sense than girls, its a known fact, yet i read through these forums and i don't see it. wheres my girls at, we have a voice as well

now since we are in a computer forum i may lose you here, but lets say your a chevy boy, you trust chevy, great vehicles and all. You go to your Chevy dealer to get yourself a new vehicle. Now do you buy last years model (had great reviews & performance) or the new year model for basically the same price? Now i think you'd find a very high percentage of people going for the new model and trusting a very good brand. Sorry if i lost you im a country girl born and raised, but ive got my geek on as well

LOL, I'm as much of a car guy as I am a tech guy (maybe even more so). And I get your point, if you're building a new system, there's no real reason NOT to go for the newest product if you can. The only difference (and one that is irrelevant as far as this thread is concerned, I know) would be that Ivy isn't much of an upgrade from Sandy, so people with a Sandy system have no real reason to upgrade.

claps, well i never said upgrade from sandy bridge to ivy bridge, that is nonsense to do that, but i guess i never really stated that you wouldn't do that either, but the OP doesnt have SB and all these guys keep saying the 2500k. this isnt the first thread ive seen with the same thing. IDK why it is, but soo many people keep talking about the heat issue. its like they heard it from 1 guy or only read the words (create more heat than SB) in a review and now they are fixated on it.
