Hello guys, I just wanted to ask a simple question. How can I overclock my Athlon X4 740 ? Tried to increase multiplier in BIOS, but it doesn't go higher than 32, AMD OverDrive doesn't go higher than 32 too. I saw lots of people going with 4.4 Ghz on this CPU, but I can't find the way to OC it.

Solution
X4 740 is locked CPU and OC is heavily depend to Motherboard FSB OC limit.
Example my mobo A88XM-A OC is limited to FSB 140. * + 40% OC

System Specs
CPU: AMD Althon X4 740 @4,47Ghz Max temp 54C
Frequency: 4477Mhz
Ref* Mulitiplier: 139.85 * 32 ( Under Bios is 140)
CPU Voltage: 1.45V
NB Frequency: 2238.8Mhz
NB-Volts- + 0,1V
RAM: 8GB 1866Mhz DDR3 CL8 @ 1.65V ( Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A ) CL8-8-9-22
Motherboard: Asus A88XM-A + added heat sinks on power section

AMD overdrive will not help you with this OC you need look to Bios.
During OC with FSB you must also adjust ram settings and turn off AHCI.
The Athlon 740 is a locked multiplier CPU, you can't increase the multiplier of this CPU manually.

The only thing you could do to OC it is modify the base clock value, which must be done carefully because it modifies other values with it and it could damage or kill other components if done wrong.

From the FM2/FM2+ socket CPUs, only the Athlon 750K, 760K, 860K (see the K) can be OCed by increasing the multiplier.

thanks! btw I heard that 740 has turbo mode or smthng like that, what does it do?

Almost all modern CPUs have turbo mode.

The 740 has a base clock of 3.2 GHz and a turbo clock of 3.7 GHz. Turbo mode will happen (it's turned on by default) when only 1 core is need to do a task. If the temperature and power demand of the CPU allows it, the CPU will automatically OC 1 core to the turbo frequency so single threaded tasks are finished faster.

thanks! btw in AMD OverDrive there is turbo mode control, and whatever I select, it always sets to 35x multiplier, how it works?
