AMD Athlon x4 760k only showing 2 cores?

Hey so when I use windows task manager it says my cpu has 2 cores and 4 threads, even though it is advertised as being a quad core. The msconfig number of processors box was already unticked when I tried the msconfig method. After reading around a bit there were some pages that said my cpu is advertised as being quad core because it has 4 threads but I'm not really sure. CPU-Z says I have 4 cores.

Current AMD CPU's aren't quite full cores, your quad core isn't 4 fully independent cores, but it also isn't a dual core with extra threads to use any extra bandwidth. This is a simplified diagram of the current AMD core structure:

In most respects it looks like a dual core setup, but you'll notice there's only one floating point unit. It's shared between the two cores and can cause slowdowns in some situations. AMD refers to one of these blocks as a "module", so your quad core has two "modules" with two "cores" each. My eight core has four "modules" which leads some to call it a quad core, though it performs better than a quad core (though not as well as four independent cores would)
