Currently my XP2400+ runs at 140 degrees fairenh... er, 140 degrees F and thats with the case being open for an extended period of time...Today I ordered a bunch of accesories for my comp, 2 80mm fans, one with a thermal reader thing that can up its output to 55 CFM and the other just being a nice LED one, a front drive bay fan system, a blower (because im soon going to own a 6600 GT) and a couple of LEDs (to make it look nicer, no less) and im wondering... can i just install the 2 fans like i planned to, (one replacing the stock rear fan, and one on a new hole in the top) or is that a bit too hot for comfort for my AMD, and maybe have the one previously on the top, on the side panel? with the temp probe near my heatsink?

thanks.

Splendid
If you are talking 5 hrs of serious gaming, 60c is fine.
One of the most common mistakes people make, is not using an Amd approved psu. Having the big bottom fan on the psu seems to suck a lot of the chip heat right out of the case.

Thats 5 hours of surfing the net, ordering new cooling items and listening to music (Dschinghis khan ftw) :p
Im planning to buy : http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-104-968&depa=0 to support the fans i ordered today, and to support the 6600GT im soon to get as well. I will put the nice 55 CFM fan on the sidepanel (dremel! its time to get you out of those cobwebs, you are deemed useful!) to help with flow... because while on the phone today i opened the case and put my 10" fan aimed at the CPU, got it to go down to 116degrees F and my mobo was down to 72 degrees ;)

49-53Centigrade is fine w/ your CPU. I have the same.
59-65C is normal after gaming.

I run SETI so it shouldn't be a problem. My computer is on 24-7. It's been running like this for over 2 years now. I only wish my OS was so stable.

Regular maintenance intervals is recommended because dust will build up after a while. I recommend at least twice a year.

noise. and cost.
im on a reeeaalllly crappy budget.
noise isnt too big of a problem for me, but i figure... well. 80mm hole... cut some more out,you got a 120 mm hole! so really theres no problem :) oh and i know about how quickly disks die, I used my dremel to modify my... heating vent in my room, to make it only output air on the living side, not the electronic side, and it took a -good- not-made-for-cutting-but-all-i-had disk and made it to ~ a pencil eraser shaped/sized piece of rubbish
