I was not sure whether this is hardware or software, so I am just going to post this here and hope that someone can help...
I asked at the AMD site forums, but nobody there seems to have a solution for this problem.
Okay, so here is my Issue...
I just upgraded my video card from an older Sapphire 2GB Radeon HD 4870x2 PCIE card, to a newer HIS 2GB Radeon HD 6970 PCIE card.
The hardware install was a no-brainer, but when I rebooted after the install, Windows began to have issues with the Catalyst Control Center. First Windows only saw the new card as a generic PnP VGA compatible card. So I went to the AMD site, and grabbed the newest non-beta drivers they had. It had issues right from the start. When installing, It gave me an error saying it could not find an INF file, with no reference as to what INF file it was talking about. It did finish the install though and now it seemed fine. Windows saw the card properly and seemed to load the correct drivers, but it gets better. I opened the Catalyst Control Center to reset the overscan on my monitor and get rid of the annoying 1" borders around the screen, but when I opened it up, there were absolutely no commands in the left hand column fo the Graphics Card or my Monitor. Just a few panels for my CPU. So I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and still the same thing.
Next, I restored my system to a restore point a couple of days back, before I put in the new card. I the uninstalled the drivers again, and changed the settings to use the generic PnP VGA Driver again. driver, then after a reboot, I reinstalled the AMD drivers with a freshly downloaded set of version 12.10 to make sure it wasn't the downloaded file. I rebooted again, after making sure that the .Net 4.0 framework was properly installed as well. When the system came back up, I opened CCC, and it was the same...
Which is where I am now...
I hope someone out there has some useful solutions. I really don't want to completely reinstall Windows. It takes me a week to get everything back up and running when I have to do that. So please help..
