News AMD B650 Motherboards Listed at U.S. Retailer Starting at $199

Price wise atm (Newegg): X670 > Z790 > Z690
I see they're, more or less, the same mess:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-c...rds/z790-motherboards-lga-1700?sort=price_asc

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-c...-motherboards/am5-motherboards?sort=price_asc

DDR4 models are cheaper, slightly, but not by a big enough margin.

And Newegg doesn't even have many AM5 motherboards to make a comparison like for like:

https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007627 601409372&Order=1

https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007625 601406716&Order=1

There's barebones Z790s in there, but holy damn those are bottom of the barrel.

Regards.

Other than the Asus Prime series boards, their Z690 boards were and still are expensive compared to the other board manufactures. It's no different with their Z790 boards.

Remember when you could get B450 boards for $69 starting on sale, just a sweet 2 years ago?

AMD is going to hurt because of this.

I’ve actually got an asrock b350 board (ab350 pro 4) that is a decent board that I got for about 70-80 in 2017-18. Actually running a 5900x in that. Just a decent board that works.

I’ve seen some posts that supposedly b650 boards are on some sites for $199 already. They need to get the price of these boards down closer to 100 and ddr5 down or their stuff is going to sit.

I get they are trying to make a profit, but this isn’t 2018 where you have a US President that had the economy humming along at least in the USA, and people had extra money. Now you are in a down economy where there are some people who will buy whatever they push out there, but I think a lot of people are going to be somewhat frugal with their money.

I get that AMD and Intel are both wanting to one up each other but they need to realize as well that perhaps they could have dialed things back a hair and offered value to their customers. As a consumer if I’ve got to lay down 700-800 dollars in order to get a basic 6 core 12 thread cpu, motherboard and ram, then I’m out. Because at that, I can have a nice 5700x 8 core, board, and 32gb of ram for probably around 425, and still have money for a graphics card left, like an rx 6600 for example.

For me, their current prices are not acceptable, and as someone who’s bought a lot of amd hardware and recommended their products for years due to the value they provided, if they keep their current prices, I’ll definitely take more of a look at Intel next upgrade.

I've been delaying and delaying upgrading my builds for ages, because these new releases were always less than 12 months away, but I find myself at the point where I'm not bothered.

The want is strong, but the need is dampened by the sheer lack of value.

Strongly considering 13th Gen (or the 12600K if prices fall), as both would sort me for a few years without all this outlay.

ASRock X670E Lightning is a little bit over $300 in Poland and that's the cheepest one I found. I imagine B650 is going to cost more than $200 for the least expensive model. I hoped thr B650 will be less expensive. I'm definately not upgrading with these prices, even though I wanted to be an early adopter.
Upgrading my B450M Steel Legend, which I paid around $100 with current exchange rate, to B550M Steel Legend is a no no still. It's $50 more for PCIe 4.0.
The prices are ridiculous. Those companies need their head checked.

Edit:
This reminds me of the 90's. PC prices were way beyond your average Joe's reach. They lasted a lot longer though. I doubt the new stuff can match old 386 in longevity.

Yes, yes I do. I bought B450M because it was cheeper than B550M and it didn't lack any features. Except PCIe 4.0, which I didn't need.

meh still terrible prices

Zen4 is the biggest launch fail ever, forcing people into DDR5 , rampant scalping from mobo makers and to stay on top of benchmark charts, cpu pushed to the limit for power & temps

I don't care about what AMD thinks that they have a premium brand, people vote with their wallets.

Most will ignore this overpriced crap Zen4 platform & go with Intel 13th gen.
If they don't, they will wait for Zen5 so it's still a loss in sales for AMD.

The only saving grace for AMD is an early new cpu launch and new mobo chipsets.

I've been ready to build my new rig for some time now. I already have the case, RAM, and CPU cooler, and am transplanting my GPU and PSU, but I'm just not happy with the price vs. performance vs. POWER direction.

I was also very surprised at the leaked 13900KS numbers. Most important for me is gaming longevity. This build MUST last 5 years at top (or near top) game/graphics settings. Maybe I'll wait until the AMD 7000 series X3D chips come out to decide between that and Intel.

Nah, they just made a bad assumption that DDR5 would drop enough after a year of being available for Intel. It dropped a bit, but so far not enough. These boards haven't even been sold yet - so I think claiming scalping is a tad bit premature. I would also note that they haven't even caught up to Intel's power envelope yet - so they are hardly pushing the CPUs to the limit.

I do think we are going to see price correction by Black Friday. CPUs may be sold under list (or outright price corrected). Microcenter doesn't even have inventory in our local store and they are GIVING away 32GB of DDR5 with every 7700+ CPU sold and also giving discounts on boards. I think that this is going to be much ado about nothing and regular shoppers will get good value on their purchase for holiday shopping. Insisting on building RIGHT NOW might result in overpayment.

There is a definite price hiding in increased chipset pricing by AMD. I can almost guarantee it. Increasing the layer count to 8 + a few vrms can't explain a price doubling with a minimum of features.

Boy, "budget" has a new whole meaning now 🙄
I remember, when I bought my intel 7700K's Asus IX Maximus Hero, for 290€, I thought it was a ludicrous price for a motherboard. But yea, good VRMs on it, so said what the heck.
Reading this article, I first thought that was like 15 years ago, nope, just 5-6 🙄
