Greetings

So Yes, I am planning to build this rig. Here are my specs

Amd fx 9590

Sabertooth 990fx

8 gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz ddr3

Cooler Master GM 750 750 watt Gold PSU

Corsair H110i liquid cooler

1 TB Seagate Barracuda HDD

And now the difficult part, I was planning to go with gtx 970 but then I had this horrible news about their 4 gb ddr5 vram truth. Adding to worse,:kaola: nvidia made it clear that they are not gonna fix this issue through any update. Its cheating, liars............ :pfff:Its basically 3.5 + 0.5 which is far slower. So I thought that I should rather go with r9 290x which is Really A 4 GBDDR5.

And , yes the thing I am choosing amd is just because I already own an intel core i7 3770k and I dont wanna go with 4770k. I am quite happy with my 3770k after pairing her with gtx 770 .

So could you please tell me from your experience and knowledge folks, that how do you look at my Amd Setup. The basic purpose is gaming and my budget is 100000 INR which translates to around 1650 USD $. Also , upon looking at the specs of r9290x and gtx 970 , I see that r9 290 x has More shading units,More texture mapping units Significantly wider memory bus as compared to gtx 970. Does this affect gaming performance ?

Also is 750 watt gold psu is enough

Thanks in advance.

The 970 performs fine, real world benchmarks show it is marginally stronger in 1080p, marginally weaker in 4k. It sucks less power, but it may not receive freesync support.

The PSU should be enough if you do not crossfire/sli. Your CPU is going to eat a TON of power though.

The FX-9590 is not a CPU I will ever like. It's just an FX-8350 gone crazy (the FX-8350 is fine for multithreaded workloads).

The Cooler Master GM power supply is so-so quality. Other than that, a good build. And if you're okay with an FX CPU, you should definitely be fine with an R9 290X. IMO AMD is more competitive on the GPU side than the CPU side (at least for gaming).

That looks like a very strong build although because the 9590 has a very high TDP i would strongly suggest you upgrade the power supply to 1000w especially if you plan on buying the R9290x.

The GTX970 is a great card despite the whole 3.5GB/4GB issue and i agree Nvidia have screwed the whole thing up and indeed are making it worse by not addressing the issue especially for people that have already bought one.

My recommendation is to go for the "Sapphire R9290 tri x" and not the r9290x version which doesn't add that much more in terms of performance certainly in the real world. I would also look at upgrading your PSU like i stated earlier.

Best of luck and hope this helps!

On paper the R9 290x should be faster than the GTX 970. For some reason (probably drivers) they perform quite close to each other.

I would go for a better power supply if you want to overclock.

If you want to play at extreme resolution, you can even considering going for the 8GB R9 290x Vapor-X by Sapphire.

750W is alright for that system. But I would want a little more quality. Otherwise, a budget 850W unit would certainly be enough.

Lolzz Nope man , I dont want to spoil my studies so I am not looking very much forward to Extreeemeeey resolution

Depends on the resolution. At 1080p, very very few games. At 1440p, a few games, but still only a minority. 4K is where having 4GB is a big deal today.

Over time, games will require more VRAM at each resolution.

More and more games will increasingly use more vram as time goes by especially games such as Crysis and so on but it's also the bandwidth that matters.

If you keep saying "i'll wait a while" you never end up buying anything and the new cards won't be here for another few months and i'm guessing the prices won't be as competitive as those cards currently on the market. No harm in waiting but there comes a point where you just need to go and buy the card and enjoy it...best of luck!
