AMD Chipset Says 6.0 Gb/s but HWinfo says HD is in SATA II Mode

I'm looking to buy an SSD for my laptop and all I could find were SATA III SSDs. I know they're backwards compatible but I don't want to spend extra to waste all that performance. I ran HwInfo64, Aida64 and Sisoft Sandra, all 3 said that my HD is operating at SATA II, and that the maximum buffer to host is 300 MB/s. However, a quick search of my chipset showed that it supports 6 Gb/s SATA III. My hardware seems to support SATA III but all the programs thus far tell me that it only gets SATA II. Is there someway of reconfiguring that would allow SATA III performance? I've looked around on some forums and the internet and all I could find was instructions on switching between AHCI and IDE controller modes.

My Specs: Laptop
Acer ASpire 5560
AMD A6-3420m (Llano) with Radeon 6520G (SUMO Mobile)
6GB DDR3 RAM
Hitachi HTS547575A9E384 750GB 5400RPM
AMD A55/A60M (Hudson D-2/M2)
Windows 7 (64-bit) OEM

I have nearly the same config as you in an Asus K53TK. Only difference is mine has a discrete card as well, a 7670m. From the research I did it would appear that SATA III can be disable by the manufacturer in the also crippled Bios, for power reasons. Anyhow get the drive, I tossed a samsung 840 in mine and the difference was insane. Yes it runs at about half speed in the benchmarks but it still blows the doors off the dog slow HDD that was in there (also the same as yours). There was a good article somewhere I read comparing real world performance between SATA II and SATA III on SSD's and there really wasn't much. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the stunningly fast reply guys. This forum is by far the best I've been to thus far. I've done some further research and found out the SATA controller has in fact been modified to use SATA II. I might just end up getting a new laptop for all it's worth. I'll still be getting the SSD as it sounds quite mandatory for a good laptop. Thanks Again guys.
