AMD CPU upgrade - from Phenom II x4 965 BE to what ?

Hello guys ,

So , I am goin to upgrade my CPU , which is currently Phenom 965 BE .

I am googling for an hours now , and found countless of contradictions about stuff i wanted to know .

The CPUs I am thnikning about upgrading to are :

1. FX 6300 / 6350 -prices : ( 100 / 117 )
2. FX 8300 / 8320 /8350 -prices : ( 124 / 135 / 162 )

.note : prices are in eur (if it is important)

Here is my spec :

MOBO : ASUS M5A99X
CPU : Phenom II x4 965 BE
CPU Cooler : Corsair hydro h75
GPU : SAPPHIRE HD 7850 OC
PSU : 650W
RAM : 8GB Corsair
....(if u need more of my spec i will add it)

But the question is : which one is most suitable for my PC ?
I dont mind to pay a few extra buck for better CPU , if it is worth it . But also , saving money is not that bad .
Somewhere I have red that verisons above xx00 are just overclocked versions . (Yes I know that for instance 6300 is 95w TDP and 6350 is 125 , but apart from power consumption , does it really matter in stuff like overclocking ? Also It was stated on many forums ,
The thing is that i want solid CPU for gaming . I believe I have good CPU cooler for mid range Overclocking (tell me if I am wrong) so I dont mind overclocking it if it will be stable .
So is there point of buing any other CPU then the basic xx00 ones if I am able to overclock them , or is it money worth spending on those higher tiers ?

Basicaly , which CPU would you reccomend me to buy in long term and why ? How far can I push that CPU, in term of overclocking , with my CPU cooler ?

For gaming, you're not going to see much of a difference between the 8300 series and the 6300 series.
The 6300 (6 cores) uses the same cores as the 8300 (8 cores) series, but the 8300 series has two more of them.


Your CPU cooler will be fine for either choice, much better than the stock cooler.
Keep in mind, upgrading to the 6300 won't be much of an upgrade... but it IS a better chip overall.

EDIT: when I say "won't be much of an upgrade", I'm talking like 2-3 FPS difference.

I saw quiet a lot of people talking that upgrade only to 6300 gave recognizable change in FPS .
But i would not kept the 6300 at stock speed . I was thinking about OCing it to like 4.3-4.5 Ghz which i saw was stable on the PC with slightly slower PC and really worse cooler .
So , if I want to OC the CPU , there is no point of buying anything else apart from xx00 right ?
In this case , is there any adwantage to 8300 from 6300 if i want to OC the CPU ?

if your board can handle an 8350/8370 then they are the chips to buy.

the 8350/8370 are 2 of the best bang for buck cpu's you can buy. they costs a little more than the 8300 but are generally a better performers due to higher clocks out the box.
the 8350/8370 are also a better binned parts so will likely run at lower temps and be more stable if you oc them.

personally i wouldn't recommend a 6300 if you can afford an 8350/8370 because in some games like bf4 the 8350/8370 just work better.
