Thanks for all who view this post.

I have been having some serious problems with my computer lately. It all started right before I installed and started playing Anthem on my desktop with the new AMD 19.2.3 driver. I experienced black screen on startup, and a blue screen with white writing saying that my drivers and/or hdd had failed. I reinstalled windows, and it happened again 3 days after I reinstalled windows and the gfx driver clean. This is my list of symptoms and what happened, followed by system specs/hardware:

  1. System went blue screen mid-game with error messages for drivers and possible hard drive failures. I ran ddu and followed steps accordingly, then did a clean install of the latest 19.2.3 driver.
  2. Hard drive began clicking and whirring (it was 4 years old), and my computer could only reboot to black screen after shut downs and restarts. I had to unplug, turn of power supply, and turn on for it to maybe start in safe mode.
  3. I ran 3 of the options on this website: https://www.maketecheasier.com/check-hard-disk-health-windows/, to no avail.
  4. I reinstalled windows with a Samsung Evo 860 256gb and updated to the newest AMD drivers. It was running everything extremely quickly and not exhibiting any symptoms for 3 days until today.
  5. It started going to black screen on restart/shut down, and had to be restarted again for it to get to the windows screen. I still have the 19.2.3 driver installed, but this was the first time I got the blue screen since I reinstalled windows and the 19.2.3 driver on clean installs. I started up Assasin's Creed: Odyssey, which I had been playing for the last few days, and it went straight to the blue screen with the driver error messages. I was able to restart, and am considering going back to earlier drivers like 17.1.1 while I try and figure this mess out. Any insight/help would be very much appreciated. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Restarted after running ddu and installing 17.1.1 in safe mode, and it is not being recognized. I cannot remember how I fixed this last time, but I am troubleshooting now.

17.1.1 wouldn't work. Had to update to 19.2.3, and everything is working correctly, but I am still under the impression that I will get the blue screen again. I checked my temperatures and voltage as per another TH post, and everything there is fine as well.

I don't get why 19.2.3 will work, but blue screen me, when I can't even install 17.1.1 and have it working (as it is considered a stable driver). Is my motherboard giving me these issues, maybe? Thanks again for viewing and helping. I really appreciate it.

Last stable was 19.1.1 which is available on AMD.com, 17.1.1 is ancient its like 2 years old. I'd bet 19.1.1 will install and work solidly. It happens sometimes with these optional AMD releases that they help on one game only to break another
