AMD Driver Update to Black Screen

I updated my AMD graphic card's driver, and when it got to the step of the driver itself, I got a black screen.

After about 10 minutes, I reboot the computer manually, and then i still got a black screen after the Windows logo.

I was on the phone with MS support for a long time seeing if they could find a solution, and they couldn't.

I use a 64 bit version of Windows 8 with Media Center, and an AMD Radeon HD 7770, and an MSI motherboard.

I am sure that if I could get to safe mode, then I could fix the issue, but I have no idea how.

I have tried the installation disc, pressing SHIFT+F8, forcing the computer to shut down on the Windows logo (MS told me to do that), holding Shift, holding F8.

The only thing that I have been able to do is bring up the menu for the disc, but that has nothing in their for rebooting the computer in safe mode.

I have tried to do a Refresh, but that only told me that the drive with Windows on it (a SSD) is locked, and needs to be unlocked.

I have tried using the command "bcdedit," but that only told me that it could not access it.

So, any ideas?

So when you boot from the Installation disk there is no option to Repair your computer? No Troubleshoot? Advanced Options?

When I go to the disc I do see a good amount of tools.

-Refresh
-Restart
-Advanced Options
--System Restore
--System Image Recovery
--Automatic Repair
--Command Prompt
--UEFI Firmware Settings


What I need to see is another option called Windows Startup Settings, but for some reason, I don't.
I have tried running a Refresh, but that only told me that the drive with Windows installed on it was locked.

Windows didn't have a problem with loading, as it seemed that it did respond to the keyboard, but it was just the display getting screwed up.
I wouldn't be surprised if it is corrupt now after MS telling me to forcibly shut down the computer during the boot process because "Windows 8 is intelligent, and will go to the advanced startup options if it gets interrupted during the boot process multiple times."

Startup Settings should be in Advance Options...

I know it should, but I am not entirely sure on why.


The only thing I can think of that might be a reason is that my Win 8 Pro installation disc was from back in November (got it from a Black Friday deal), and it could be that that option wasn't on those older discs.

Microsoft refuses to give me an ISO to burn of the newer discs that are also full versions (I own a full version of the installation, even though my key is bugged for whatever reason making it that I always have to call them to get it activated).


My disc settings have everything except for Windows Startup Settings

Looks like your Disk is at fault, try downloading another ISO and burn a new one
I have 2 links, but maybe your 'plus Media Center' will negate both...can only try...

I tried the bcedit command as well, and that just told me that it couldn't access the boot store (or something to that effect).

I actually just gave up and formatted my drives, as I still need to call MS to activate my Windows 8 since my key is weird.

Yep, it would appear that your 'Media Centre' Edition doesn't obey the 'normal' rules!
