I'm planning of buying a new AMD GPU, but I'm afraid of those drivers. Has AMD drivers got any better by years or are they still rubbish?

Which one is better today - AMD or Nvidia?

AMD drivers work fine for most folks. Make sure to remove any old GPU drivers. Some folks also use ccleaner or similar to get rid of stray driver remains before installing the new AMD drivers.
 
AMD has gotten alot better with the drivers. I think they have been trying to get too fancy with the UI on them lately though. Even so, these drivers are not like the old ATI drivers which while great when they worked, drove you mad when they didn't 😀
 



ATI, AMD, Nvidia, they have all had their trials and tribulations at one time or another with a specific product. But there is no cause for anyone to simply make a general statement that Blah, Blah Blahs's drivers are "rubbish". Very few products will fit the bill to everyone's satisfaction, thus the wide and varied assortment. Just do your homework on the products you are looking at, and be sure you buy a product that fits your needs. Sometimes we tend to make hurried or uniformed purchases trying to save couple of bucks, then later, in frustration when we find the product does not meet our expectations, we start hitting the forums or the feedback section of a website complaining "my new ***** is complete junk"!
Just make sure that before you decide on a specific product, you are aware of any current issues right now with your prospective selection. New hardware is always somewhat suspect, and updated drivers generally clear most unexpected new-release issues.
 


AMD has a small small lead on nvidia with gpus right now. As far as drivers are, I ball park the nvidia is slightly better. AMD has really stepped up their game though, so driver won't ever be an issue unless your running 4x gpus

Np, on a side note, I suggest the 6950 if it's in your price range, and you game at 1080p
 


Sadly it's out of my price range. I have to buy new PSU too. At the moment I got some cheap Power supply and I have to change it fast.

I'm planning on getting XFX RADEON HD 6850 Black Edition. Does someone have any experience with that card?

nah, no driver issues. you just need a good amount of power running to it as the ati amd cards need good amount of power to run at full performance. i know this because i have a 6950 by his and it says on box that the card requires min 500w but when playing BC2 i played fine but most of the time running threw smoke or a big explosion would lag my card. so i went and bought a 1000w psu from kingwin mach1 and worked perfect. all running at max settings and no longer have problems. not one lag at all. and at that time drivers from ati where the same, their wasn't a updated version. so i had to use the same version i was using before. get ur self a good psu that can carry what your gfx needs. the rail on the 12v psu i mean.
 


You're saying this in relation to what? The Nvidia cards actually take more watts than this AMD generation..? I use a 750watt psu... it's fine you can run 4x 6870's for 100 watts less than 2x 580s using 100 watts less power and 20% being faster

to reiterate, more power by the 580's and less performance. Cuda cores are GREEDY
 
as of now it is all based on what your gaming needs are to what brand you will choose. For resolutions above 1920x1080 or multiple monitors go amd/ati. For 1920x1080 and below, and for a more quiet operation, go nvidia. The differences are so slight in the cards that either one will be a good performer, as well as drivers.
 

I ran bad company on my old 5770 and had not one lag issue on a 600w.
 


I got 3D 120hz Monitor and it's max resolution is 1680x1050. I was looking at GTX 550 Ti model which is meant to be used at that resolution. Should I got for AMD 6850 or Nvidia?
 

I would go with the 6850 still, the 550 is no good. The 560ti or 6870 would both be solid options.

I prefer AMD though.. they have more generous vram options :)
 


560Ti and 6870 costs 40 euros more than 6850 and I'm low on budget. I want a decent card to play GTA IV and Assassins creed series. My current GT 220 sucks
 

Oh wow, the 6850 will suffice for those games easily!
 
My last two cards were an 8800GS, and a 5750. BOTH cards ran so fine that I never even went into the drivers to tinker with stuff. Put in card, install drivers, play games. In reviews I see here and there where both sides have issues with things. Just grab a newer driver and don't worry about it.
 

which is a very valid argument. however the 6850 preforms a tad better 😉
