I currently have an AMD fx-4100, which is running at nearly 100% load when I was playing Splitgate on low settings (just one example). While I know the processor is ancient, I currently have a gtx 760 which I think is being bottlenecked. i was given a gtx 970 that I haven’t installed yet, which will probably only increase performance slightly given the bottleneck. Would it be worth it to upgrade to a used FX-8350 which can be found used pretty cheap and I wouldn’t have to upgrade mobo. Or should I just deal with it until I can afford a Ryzen 5 2600x. Preferably I would like to just upgrade cpu if needed, but I’m not sure if the FX-8350 will still bottleneck the gtx 970.

The FX-8350 will still bottleneck the GTX 970. With games moving to multi-threaded support, the FX-8350 should give you a decent increase in performance if you are already seeing 100% usage. Pretty much everyone will recommend waiting for the Ryzen CPU. But if won't be able to afford it anytime soon, then you might as well get what you can afford.

Don't forget about the Ryzen 3 1200, it cost $65 right now and is still a huge jump up in performance compared to your FX-4100.

That is a cpu I did not know about, if I find a deal on a cpu, mobo, ram combo. I might go for it, thank you

Definitely not a good board for using the FX-8350. The north-bridge (VRM) would get too hot and throttle the CPU.
