AMD FX-4100 or Intel Core i5-3450? -- New Gaming PC

I can't figure out which CPU would be better in performance.
I reviewed the other parts of the PC myself, I just can't figure out which one would perform better.

The i5. If it were purely for gaming, a 4170 (not necessarily a 4100) would be sufficient, but in general use, the 3450 is the better choice.

Ditto to what DJ said, but really though it seems unreasonable to compare a 110 dollar CPU to a 200 dollar CPU doesn't it? Of course the $200 one is better, as well it should be.

the i5 is no doubt better, this shouldn't even be a question, unless you want to save money.

That will depend on how much you want to spend and replace. The lowest cost to performance upgrade would be a processor upgrade to an unlocked i5. Either the i5-2500K or the IB i5-3570k (with a BIOS update before swapping CPUs). Your i5-2400 isn't far behind the i5-2500K at stock, but the unlocked multiplier of the i5-2500k makes it easy to O/C it to higher performance.

Then you could consider selling the i5-2400 to lessen the $ impact.
