as title states which is better for gaming and, if one is worse than the other how noticeable would this actually be in reality eg approx fps loss?

bare in mind the AMD is at 4.2ghz i5 3.4ghz and the amd is around £70 cheaper for me which i could spend elsewhere my gpu is a 760 gtx

You cannot compare processors directly on clock speed, there are other factors that affect the CPUs overall performance.

Between the 2 it would be a landslide in the intel's favour, it's far faster even at lower clock speeds. Also it turbos to 3.8 (or 3.9). What would you use the £70 for if you were to go the AMD route?
And which motherboard would you use for each?

The i5 @ 3.4/3.8ghz is FAR faster than the FX @ 4.2/4.3ghz. You could possibly get 5.0ghz with the FX and the i5 would still be faster @ stock speeds. If you overclocked the i5 to match the FX's stock 4.3ghz, the i5 would be more than 60% faster. The FX looks better when compared to an i3.

The intel chips do more work per ghz; you can't compare on that alone.
Here is a year old test that might give you some idea.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-processor-frame-rate-performance,3427-9.html
The test used fx-4300 and a 3350P
Your FX- 4350 might be a tad faster, and the 3570K can become 25% faster with a overclock that the "K" permits.
No question that the 3570K is a better gamer.
Worth is something that only YOU can decide.

That said, games are usually limited by the graphics card than the cpu.
There are exceptions.
One notable one is that BF3 in multiplayer becomes very cpu intensive, while in single player not so much.

My take is to buy your good cpu up front.
It is much easier and cost effective to upgrade a video card later than a cpu.

could you suggest what i could get for £120 max which is comparable to the i5 3570k and is it really that big of a difference im just looking to cut some expenses since i know that amd are pretty good on the budget whereas intel like to over price im fine with a slightly weaker cpu,

EDIT: this build will not be upgraded so im not looking for any upgrade paths just cheaper options that will not make such a huge difference, furthermore i dont really play hardcore graphics games like bf4 or witcher 3

mobos
MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 or MSI Z77A-G43 ATX LGA1155 for intel

See that's why I needed to know. I wouldn't use that MSI 970 board, it's pretty awful.
Additonally, that Z77 motherboard wouldn't be compatible with the processors I had selected for you.

Post your full build here and I'll see what I can do. Is there anywhere specific you need to order parts from?

You could remove the optical drive of course if you have one to re-use (I noticed you don't have one listed in your build).

is the additional 4 cores really necessary though since in my head the fx 4350 should only lose around 10 fps vs the fx 8320 and shouldnt the fx 4350 be able to reach a higher overclock?

Sure you could take the 4350 if you want, it won't necessarily overclock higher though, it all depends on the chip itself. Generally, it probably will. If you're looking for a high overclock you should be looking at a 990FX motherboard and a far better CPU cooler - you're essentially just displacing cost from the CPU to the motherboard and cooling.

An i5 3330 would easily outperform a FX 4350. A stock 3570 would blow it out of the water. If you want to go AMD, get either the FX 6300, which is a far better deal than the 4350 for basically the same price. Or the FX 8320 is a good deal if you want 8 cores. The FX 6300 and FX 8320 are the only 2 AMD FX cpus I would ever consider unless the FX 4300 is on sale for like $80 or less.

I just had the fx 6350. On league of legends I was getting 150 fps max. 80 minimum. Then I just switched now to Intel i5-4670 and I get 250 max. 150 minimum. I know graphics card is the biggest factor. But I certainly saw the difference with the cpu chips. Intel is way better. And even the i3 series is better then the 6350 on single task performance. 6350 isnt a true 6 core. Its actually 3. Same with the fx 8 series. Its actually a 4 core.
