i have the amd fx 6300 and ive had this pc or a little over 2 weeks now and im experiencing some problems EG thermal throttling when im at idle my them is 59c and when i play games EG: dead by daylight i get a fps of 50 and jumps down too 11 fps for about 30 seconds when the temp is 89c im thinking of upgrading to a amd fx 8350 but what i would like to know will this stop the thermal throttling because the new processor comes with a cooler: HBX Wraith cooler, many thanks mitchell

Solution
well the pc was pre-built i brought it off a friend it was quite dusty and i cleaned it out the only thing i have't done yet was take/replace the old cpu fan due too no thermal paste but thanks for the quick reply
Once you get more thermal paste (most work fine) then I'd remove the stock cooler and dust out the fan and then remount it with new thermal paste and see if this helps. Unless you get that FX 8350/Cooler for next to nothing I really would avoid dumping much money into that system.
I hope you didn't pay much for this system as it's quite outdated...

Anyways getting a aftermarket should keep it within safe limits but perhaps you installed the cooler incorrectly?

Yeah, it's hard to say anything until you have removed the cooler, applied fresh thermal paste, and reinstalled the cooler correctly.

Whether and FX-8350 -- even for free -- is a good idea depends on the motherboard. If you have a budget AM3+ motherboard, then it would not be even worth bothering.

thanks for all this info really helps :)
Your welcome!

Try cleaning+new thermal paste and let me know how it turns out.

Which software are you using to read temps? Many of the 3rd party software was off with the FX CPU's and you have to use AMD Overdrive to get a accurate temp but it uses Thermal Margin. AMD doesn't officially support it anymore but it may still exist somewhere...

Techspot should be trustworthy.

I have a m5a78l-m plus/usb3 motherbaord

Ah, then it's a hard no on an 8350 update. This is a cheap 760G motherboard, which are known to throttle 125W CPUs at load because of the bargain basement VRM design. Even when officially supported, these motherboards are frequently problematic and this specific motherboard is one of the offenders.
