AMD FX-6300 High Idle Temp Readings

I have a new AMD FX-6300, not overclocked or anything just factory speeds.

In my bios, it says I'm idling at about 50 - 55 degrees Celsius. Is something wrong?! When I touch under the fan on my CPU it's cool so I don't see how they're getting these temps. Is it a reading that's like DIRECTLY on the processor? I'm probably over worried but I want to make sure everything is okay. Excuse me nubbiness 😉

AMD cpus rarely give very accurate temps. its not uncommon for them to be as much as 5C-20C off in either direction.

For FX cpus generally they run within 5C of the socket temp... so check out the hottest temp on the motherboard... then compare it to the cpu temps... should give you an idea if the temps are being reported properly.

btw: Are you using the stock heatsink?

If you can touch your processor you have the fan on wrong... I would reseat the fan and see if that fixes the issue... what are you monitoring the temp with? Try looking in bios... thats as idle as it can get, but if that shows 50C you might have an issue.

HWinfo. Shows socket temp and actual CPU temp. AMD processors are notoriously inaccurate at least below readings of 40C. I'd recommend you get an aftermarket CPU cooler (CM Hyper 212 EVO) anyway, if it fits in your case.

Looks like you max tem while u had it running was 41C and it sitting at 34 at the moment of that screen shot those are fine temps. Leave that program open and go game or something and check the Package temp under AMD FX-6300 when your done. this will give you a much better idea of how your cooling is working. If your not OCing don't listen there is NO need to buy an after market heatsink.

Mine looks like this

I believe your TMPIN0 and TMPIN1 correspond to my CPU socket and Mainboard temps. (Ignore my TMPIN2, it likes to pretend it's hot stuff).

As Supahos said, go and game while its open and see the results. I would disagree on the aftermarket cooler front though. You can get a CM Hyper 212 EVO for like $25 and it will keep your parts cool, create much less noise and increase the lifespan of your CPU.

I have an amd fx 6300 and when I go into bios on start up it says 41c then quickly goes up in temp if I leave it there will reach above 50c and higher if I don't load windows. its like the cool n quiet doesn'twork till I load up windows. then it idles at 41c on destop. sometimes my cpu won't idle at all when I do absolutely nothing and my cpu temp will 50c then when I touch my mouse the cpu activity goes back to idle and temps go down. weird
