I want to over clock this to about 4.2ghz but I can't seem to get it right. I have an Asus motherboard (ice model) and a standard 500w pay. I'd like to know.what voltage I should use to.get stable?

Solution
This all depends on your motherboard. If you have a good board 4.5 could be a cake walk., If you have a low end board you will struggle against high temps and high voltages just to break 4 Ghz.
That may just be the processor's limit. Every one is different. If upping the voltage .1V at a time doesn't help, you may have reached a multiplier limit. I presume you've turned off Turbo Mode in BIOS? My FX-6300 I had only got to a stable 3.9GHZ on the multi alone. 4.0GHZ was iffy. So yours is pretty good. What Asus MB model do you actually have? What make/model PSU?

That is a really nice board for general use however it's not really geared for overclocking. It utilizes a 4+1 Phase VRM which tends to have issues when overclocking. I ave seen chips OC on these boards but most always these users were just very lucky to get a golden CPU that required little to no additional voltage to get a good OC. Try setting your vcore to 1.4 and running the cpu at stock speeds and monitor temps, if they are OK get the clock as high as you can on that voltage. Over 1.4 on 4+1 is really a crap shoot.

Last time I checked (just now) it has a 4+2 power phase.
