I know I may get yelled at but I own a prebuilt pc. My mother bought it for me and i'm very grateful. It has been 2 years and i'm now interested in upgrading my pc. I've decided to either go with a graphics card upgrade (NVIDIA Geforce GT 1030) or to upgrade my cpu. I'm not sure what motherboard I have, thats all I currently know. Any advice would help as im still rather new to upgrading pc's! Edit: I have downloaded a tool to identify my mobo and Im running a "GA-78LMT-USB3 R2 (Socket M2)" with a 780 G chipset model

You're on the old AM3+ platform, so a 8350/8370 cpu would be about the best you can do with that socket depending on what motherboard you have. But you would be investing in a much slower dated platform. An AM4 platform with a Ryzen 3600 is a good budget upgrade that will run circles around the FX line.
Use a took like Speccy to find out what mobo you have. Unfortunately there’s not a lot you can do to upgrade the cpu besides get a new motherboard ram and all the rest of stff you need
