Hello all,

Im new to this forum, but from what I have been reading you guys know your stuff. So I need to ask you all a question.

Im new to this whole OC thing for the most part. Ive been reading through the AMD Overclocking club thread to get an idea of what I need to do, but I havent had much luck as of yet.

Ive been trying to OC my cpu through the AMD Catalyst and AMD Overdrive programs and havent had any luck. Both programs want me to auto-tune the cpu. Its runs through at different profiles to see where she will max out. As of now its around 4.4 and the voltage at like 1.416 ish.

This is where I run into problems. It allows me to apply these auto-tune settings. Once I do that she FREAKS out. I cant even play an episode of Psych on VLC without it skipping like a rock across a pond. Its pretty bad. So I just discard the settings and go back to the stock 3.5ghz.

Here are my system specs if it helps out at all.
Mobo: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 AMD 970
CPU: AMD FX-6300 Vishera 3.5ghz stock (4.1ghz turbo *so they say)
Power Supply: Rosewill Stallion 700W
RAM: Corsair XMS SDRAM DDR3 1600 8gb (one stick)
GRU: XFX Doudle D Radeon 7850 1gb
Case: 4 fans total. 2 exhaust 2 intake

Currently im running at like 29C which isnt bad at all.

Ideally I would love to get my CPU up around 4.0ghz if I can and then get my gpu eventually oc'd a tab as well.

Thanks for all the help!

Use the bios to overclock. All programs i had the same problem. I had a 6300 as well but do you have the stock cooler? If so you dont want to go past 4.1Ghz. Disable the turbo it causes lag. Try this. Fsb either stock at 200 or 230. Adjust the multiplier. Disable cool and quiet all the power saving features. Manually set your ram speed and timings the rest can stay auto. As far as vcore try about 1.29-1.31 for that clock speed and youll be all set

Sweet. Thanks for the quick response. Im currently at work so I wont be able to do it until later today.

I had a feeling that the stock OC programs from AMD werent working too well. I dont plan on going past 4.1 but getting close to that would be awesome.

If tlyou have any problems later pm me and ill help you out. Watch the temps tho the stock cooler sucks. Also download hwinfo to see your cpu core and package temps

Alright, so I tried to OC it last night and she was not having it. I turned off all of the power saving features and the AMD turbo was disabled as well. I was only able to get it to 3.8 before it absolutely hates me. Once I get it anywhere above that it freaks out and lags all over the place. Just like it did before. I have a feeling my mobo does not like being clocked too much

what voltage were you using? try increasing that a notch as well as raising some of these as well to make sure the voltage isnt dropping to much. did you just raise the multiplier or increase the fsb as well? i personally leave cpu spread specrum on and pcie spread off

Off the top of my head I cant remember. I want to say it was around 1.38 or so, but it escapes my memory right now. As far as your picture goes, no where in my bios did I find any of those settings. Even within the AI Tweaks. I was looking for the capabilities in order to increase the percentages but I dont even have the option to look into the DIGI+Power Control. I just used the Performance option in the bios that comes stock from Asus and its running at 3.8ish. I can run The Witcher 2 close to high settings, but it likes medium better. As soon as I set it to ultra settings it starts lag a bit and then frame twitch.
