AMD FX 6300 VS i7 4770. How much is the difference for gaming

Currently I have this system setup:
AMD FX 6300
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 (chipset AMD 990FX, 2х PCI-e 16x, 2x PCI-e 4x)
6 GB DDR3 1333 (I know it's old, but it shouldn't affect too much, right?)
2х Geforce GTX 760 (SLI)
SSD Kingston 240 GB, HDD 500 GB (the manufacturer does not matter, right?) .

And the problem is that I suffer from FPS drops in some games on ultra settings (like Skyrim with lots of mods, World Of Tanks with mods, etc).
I'm thinking of replacing my FX 6300 with i7 4770 to solve this problem.
So the question is: Does it worth it? Should it really increase gaming performance and make FPS stop dropping? Or you have any other solutions/suggestions for me? Please help.

P. S. I know that replacing CPU to i7 means replacing Motherboard as well:)

Fx 6300 is weaker than i3 at stock speed so you cannot compare it with i7 there is no match between them in price and performance.

The fps drops may be because of bottlenecking so either go for fx 8350 for that you dont have to change the motherboard or go for i5 4690k and a z97 sli capable board wich would be much better you dont need an i7 for gaming .

Keep in mind that if your windows is OEM replacing the mobo also means rebuying windows. You could always upgrade to a better amd cpu if you don't have the budget for an all out intel swap.

Am I right that only global difference between i5 and i7 here is i7 has hyperthreading?
And do you suggest buying K version of i5 (supports overclocking, right?), or a regular 4690?
Also to leave BOX cooling, or replace it with some other?

I7 generally have more L3 cache too.
However you will see no greater benefits in gaming from the extra L3 cache.

Yes i7 has hyper threading and 8 mb l3 catche compared to 6 mb of the i5
Yes if you go with the k version and Oc the CPU then you must gen an after market cooler but if you decide to go with the i5 locked or non k version then stock cooler is fine.
