AMD FX 6300 vs. Intel i3-4130

Gonna build a budget gaming pc and was wondering which cpu should I get.

*I wont upgrade. (if i get the i3)
*I wont overclock. (if i get the fx)

I am going to pair it with a MSI GTX 750 ti
I am going to play games on 1080p
Mostly LoL, Dota 2, CS:GO and BF4
But I also want to play upcoming games like watch dogs, AC Unity and etc.

$550 budget
btw: The i3 is cheaper here in our country..

Any suggestions? Thanks. :)

There is ALOT of misinformation in this thread and it should be closed.

1) The FX6300 is 6 real cores. The FX arch is built on modules consisting of 2 integer cores, which share an FPU (floating point unit). The FX6300 is built on 3 modules, so its 6 integer cores, and 3 FPUs. There is nothing virtual about the FX arch.

2) The FX6300 is a 95watt cpu, hardly a power hog. More power draw then an i3, yes. And of course it should be. Its a 6 core vs a dual core. But its very disingenuous to tell someone its consumes tons of power.

2) The i3 is faster in single threaded apps, yes. The FX6300 will be more powerful in multi-threaded apps, yes.

So you have to ask yourself, what do you need more? I personally would never recommend an i3 to...

go for the i3 the fx6300 is almost af fast. but it uses 2 times the power whats could make it throttle in games. the i3 has more performance per core. this makes it faster in gaming. 2HT fast cores is better than 6 slow cores when it comes to gaming.
And its cheaper too! 😛
for the gpu a 750 is fine just make sure you buy a 2GB 1 new games need it even for 1080p

Hello. I would recommend the i3-4130. I have a few reasons for this recommendation:

1) The Core i3 will run cooler and be faster in single threaded operations.

2) The Core i3 is also more efficient and uses a newer manufacturing process.

3) Intel's upgrade path is much better than AMD's. For example, if you buy a i3 now, you can upgrade to a i5 or i7 at a later time.

Ideally, a i5 is perfect for gaming. But I would recommend the i3 for this build.

I3 4130 is good but is slightly less powerful than fx 6300. And fx 6300 will be better for you for multitasking, streaming, encoding, photoshop, video editing also probably for gaming and much more.
And especially in games like watch dogs you will totally benefit with those 6 cores rather than 2 cores of i3.
Also fx 6300 is more value for money, you can overclock it very well and easily, same is not the case with 4130.
So by all means, I suggest you to go for fx 6300.

And at that budget you should definitely go for value for money, which is fx 6300. It is even cheaper than 4130.
A note, fx 6300 does not run hot unless you overclock. It uses 95w tdp which is close to hasswell(85w tdp).
4130 is slightly below the performance of 6300 and if you overclock it, no i3 will match it's performance. Especially when games are becoming multithreaded, I will avoid a dual core and get what's best value for money for my rig.

The above guy is obviously a noob. Sure, the fx-6300 consumes more power, but it has 6 cores, and crushes the i3 4130 completely. And moreover, future games are supporting 6+ cores which means you'll get a huge performance over the i3.

You do realize the FX-6300 only has 3 actual cores, right? The other 3 are virtual cores. AMD's architecture is old and inefficient and they run hot and are power hungry. They are also less reliable than Intel processors and cost more, but you pay for quality and efficiency.

Before you call someone a "Noob", you might want to actually research the facts. YOU are the noob, never believe what AMD say their processors are, because they are not.

I'd also recommend a fx-6300. You'll notice very fast that two cores is to little. I used to have an dual core cpu two years back and i could barely do any multitasking. I could only have a few programs open at the same time and then my fps started to drop a lot.

Also i recommend using a R7 265 than a gtx 750ti. It's faster in general. Probably the best gpu for the money right now.

What extra you pay for the fx-6300 today, will pay you back tomorrow. Just about everything is coming around to what should have been done years ago and used multiple core technology. In this, the 6 physical cores of the fx will be much better performance wise over the 2 physical cores + hyperthreading on the i3. The core2 duos that don't have hyperthreading have already started to become obsolete as far as gaming goes.

Simple OC is easy, raise the multiplier in bios, done. It will seriously increase performance if any brand CPU.

Having a non-Z rated board for Intel CPUs, you are restricted to non-oc speeds for any cou chosen, so even an i7 4770 would not be that much of an upgrade over the i3HT, as the i3 already has a decent clock speed. The only advantage there being 4 cores with HT.

So you have to ask yourself, what do you need more? I personally would never recommend an i3 to someone who plans to use their system for gaming. If you want an Intel, do yourself a big favor and save a little more for an i5. You will be VERY glad you did that in the future. It is well-known that current and future games are continuing to get better at utilizing multi-core cpus. This is a fact.

Now, since you say the i3 is cheaper in your country, this poses an added problem when choosing between the FX and i3. Again, if I were you, I would just save a little bit more and buy an i5. Patience is a virtue and will really help you out in the long run here.

Ummm...hey, Tommy? I think YOU might want to follow your own advice and "actually research the facts". Here are a few: AMD is NOT lying about the FX-6300 being a six-core CPU. In AMD's Bulldozer and Piledriver architectures, two separate cores are coupled together into what AMD calls a "module", and the cores share the same resources within the module, but have their own separate processing threads. It's a pretty clever idea actually, when you really understand it. However, what's happening is that a computer's OS is identifying these modules as cores and the second cores within them as "logical" cores. Nevertheless, ALL six cores are separate integer cores.

For your Information the fx 6300 has 6 logical cores

And the core I3 has 2 physical cores with hyper threading (OS sees as 4 cores)
The core i3 will actually outperform the fx 6300 but it costs a little more but the i3 has a better upgrade path

Just wanted to clear that up
