Is there a difference between the fx 8120 95w, and 125w? They have the exact same specs. If I were to put the 125w version in my PC and use it will it cause problems because according to gigabyte the 8120 95w version will work in my motherboard. Model GA-M68MT-S2P Revision 3.1

What gigabyte said was the fx 81xx chips with B2 stepping and 95w TDP should work, and when I googled the same mobo model there was a person with the same model using an 8120, whether it was 95w or 125w I don't know. If the 95w is available to purchase I would buy it but I can't find it anywhere except on ebay from Korea for $200. Do you think the 125w will work? The board supports AM3 125w CPU's like the 1100T, there is also a 125w FX chip in the list.

I saw that on the CPU support list too. I would have no worry about the board handling a 125W processor. As you say, it supports other 125W processors. It will handle that one too. If you have evidence that the FX-8120 is used on that board with no BIOS issues, then it should be OK. They are, after all, the same chip just running at different speeds.

It will work. I am currently using the 125w version on a gigabyte 95w motherboard. I have been running them for almost a year. The only problem is that it runs like the fx-8100 at 2.8 GHz. Other than that they run flawlessly

careful with motherboards your getting confused motherboards manufacturers make different versions

its easy enough to find out its usually written on the board or manual what revision it is

the original model only runs phenoms am3 socket

the revised version final version runs am3 plus processors

but not the fx 8100 and i wouldnt bother shoving in a 125 while it may work it wont work fully it will turn off when under heavy load

and it should be noted the phenoms x6 performs better then bulldozer thats why everyone was so annoyed
