Hello

What is the main difference between the AMD FX 8120 and 6100 cpus and the Phenom II x4 908 and 955 cpus?
Which is better for mid level gaming? Which will better for next 4 years?

I don't know for the second question, though quad cores tend to give better gaming performance. From bulldozer performance and benchmarks etc, I would never get one for gaming. Phenom 980 would be a better option, if you want to be futureproofed up to 2014/2015 switching over to intel would be a good option.

We have to stick with AMD. So its best to get the 980 or 955 than?

Problem here is;

1] Phenom 2's are by and large all gone forever and ever so to say that the P2's are better is not really going to help much.

2] Upgrading to a antiquated P2 setup is also not smart in the least.

If I am brutally honest here; i3 2100 + H61 + GTX 560ti + requisite PSU + DDR 1333 = FTW if you want gaming at lower cost and get great results in the process. FX is just a no-no unless you have a existing AMD setup thats compatible already.

From your choices I would just go with the 955 and save buck.

We're getting a grant and we have to buy AMD stuff. So its either the FX or Phenom II x4 series. So the Phenom II is still better than the FX's?

Ok

Thanks

Is the 4100 worth getting at all?

I am going to re-asses this, I would put the Phenom II's in a box and send them buy buy, they are old and you will be lock in making your next upgrade expensive. Go for the 8120 which for the most part is m'kay but gives you the Piledriver path.
