My CPU (AMD FX 8120 Black Edition) Is running at a speed of 2812MHz or 2.81GHz according to the BIOS, EasyTune 6, CPU Z, AMD OverDrive and Windows 7. I am totally "stumped" as to why the processor is running at this speed, AMD clearly states that the FX 8120 should run at a core clock speed of 3.1GHz. I have the same motherboard, I updated the BIOS to a newer version thinking it was that and even went into the BIOS and changed the multiplier myself to x15.5 to achieve the desired speed of 3.1GHz. Although after an eratic clock speed, I changed it back as it would keep dropping to around 2.1MHz and then back up to the core clock speed of 3.1GHz. As I am using a GIGABYTE motherboard I thought someone might just be able to help me out here. Peformance is poorer to say the least. I really hope for a solution, please reply quickly so I can move on. Many thanks!

Yes, the CPU is listed as supported on the list: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4125

However, The CPU I have has a max TDP of 125 watts, whereas the version (Bulldozer) they have listed is 95 watts.
I cannot belive I diden't see this earlier! Any suggestions?

-Get a new motherboard to support (Not favourable at the moment)
-Stay with the downclocked 2.8ghz clock speed (Not fussed)
-Get a new, in this case better cpu with a TDP of 95 watts?

Thanks, I'm just not very vigilant! (Facepalm much)

No, you cant damage it. Its just downclocked CPU for safety purposes. I dont really recommend getting a new MB for old-slow bulldozer chip.

I'll say keep it and save up for something like H97+i5 then change the whole damn thing. Performance increase will be huge...

I have an Nvidia GTX 660 so I can play virtually any game on either high or maximun settings (Skyrim on Ultra High) Could you reccomend any better 95 watt processors?
