I'm really tempted to upgrade to the AMD FX 8150 from AMD Phenom II x6 1045t. I have mixed reviews about it can some people tell me what they think.

As rolli said they were disappointing, but that may well have been more due to hype than anything else. I have one though, and it's not like I'm getting a bottleneck. It really depends what you want to do.

As for upgrading you might need a new motherboard to support AM3+ but that said some AM3 CPUs can support bulldozer with bios updates apparently.

Read my lips.

Intel. Sandy Bridge. Only choice a real PC gamer has.

That is all.

Truthfully there isn't much difference other than overclocking. With tha 1045t locked multiplier, your limited to fsb overclocking. Its tricky to keep the other components balanced. Memory, ht, nb must remain stable while upping the fsb to get the cpu faster.

No point upgrading. keep your 1045t and wait for pile driving Dont bother going to intel. Unless you really need it. the 1045t is a great processor and can still handle games fine. just pair it up with a high end gpu

Considering a stock Phenom II X6 1100 is better than an FX 8150 for games, it won't be much of an upgrade unless your overclocking, than the advantage will go to the FX 8150 because its unlocked multiplier makes overclocking easy.

Even with a better CPU your only going to get an improvement in BF3 if you have a really good video card, it's a very graphics demanding game. And I know from experience BF3 plays very well on a Phenom II X6 @ 2.8Ghz.

Personally I would wait until later this year and get a Piledriver based CPU, they're rumored to release in Q3, so 3-6 months from now.

Intel is the only real choice for the serious PC gamer.

Not only do Intel CPUs smoke AMD CPUs at equal clock rates, but they overclock far better, offer better compatibility with a wider range of systems, and are virtually better than AMD in every way imaginable.

I am sorry, but this is most certainly the case.

OP: Don't bother upgrading until you can upgrade to Intel. I recommend the i5 2500k w/ the Hyper 212+. Mine powers my dual 6970s and I don't have to push it past 4.40GHz to get perfect performance.

I Smell a intel fanboy. If you acctually read my post you would know i said only get the intel If you need it. and since the op already has a 1045t and a the mobo there is no real reason since the 1045t is a fine cpu. -+

Depends on what kind of system he needs to power. If his system is mid-range, than I guess the 1045t would suffice. But keep in mind that he is talking about upgrading, and the only real upgrade I see from the 1045t would be going to an Intel CPU.

Intel fanboy? To hear people tell it, there are fanboys for everything. PC fanboy, Sony fanboy, Halo fanboy, COD fanboy, Xbox fanboy, Nintendo fanboy, AMD fanboy, Nvidia fanboy, and now I hear "Intel fanboy".

To be honest, I couldn't care less whether a CPU is made by Intel or AMD. I have no loyalty to either one. I say that Intel's better because it is, and obviously so.

Just because someone has an opinion and is able to see which is better, doesn't really make him a fanboy.

With that said, I read your comments and respect your opinion.

Fair enough i currently own a core i7 and a amd 6100 and when gaming i really dont see a diffrence thats why i say this. i understand that intel cpus are better and they should be with over 70% of the market buying intel has Much more money to play around with since they have around 20 billon dollars? and amd dont even have half of that

Your a fanboi because you totally ignored the context of the question and immediately jumped to "Intel ONRY for gaming !!!!10101010111". Lack of perspective and thought paints you as such.

To the OP,
I have that same Board with a 970BE clocked @4ghz. Your CPU is good enough for everything your doing now, the 8150 would be a slight upgrade or a sidegrade depending. Wait for PD and if you feel you need it then you can purchase it. RCM alone guarantees that it'll be an upgrade to what you have.

To the peanut gallery,
He already has a $200 USD+ motherboard, "switching" to intel would entail him spending $400+ USD to for a new performance board and i5 CPU. Your asking him to spend considerably more money by switching his entire platform.

Absolutely.

H2 and Intel FTW.

Now THAT would be a sensible upgrade for the OP.

Leave the laughable AM3/8150 second rate builds for the mid-range crowd.

Your an embarrassment to true PC gamers!

I agree fanbois make fools of all PC gamers and themselves me I pick whatever will do what I want it to for the cheapest amount of money mostly AMD wins for me.

I am not a fanboy.

I have no loyalty to Intel.

You can all think what you want. But the fact remains, he has pretty close to the best AMD CPU you can get right now. He is asking about upgrading. It don't take a rocket scientist to know that from a 1045t the next major step up would be the Intel Sandy Bridge. Anything less would be a waste of the OP's money and time. That is a fact, and if you geniuses knew anything about components, you wouldn't have a problem with someone pointing that out, calling him a fanboy.

OP: With all due respect, I think you are good just like you are. If you do upgrade, the Intel i5/i7 would be the next logical step up. And it would help to get yourself a 1155 motherboard, seeing as how the AM3 socket is just about done for and the 1155 socket will support the upcoming Ivy Bridges.

To me, that would be an investment worthy of your time and money, and it would open the door to have some very nice builds in the future.

A fanboy buys from and supports a company regardless. I only use Intel because it's better than AMD. If AMD was better, I guess people would be calling me an AMD fanboy. It may be about "for the cheapest amount of money" for you, but don't call me an embarrassment to PC gamers for expecting and recommending quality.

Think what you want, but if you think you can define the standard for which "true PC gamers!" should aspire (therefore rendering me an "embarrassment"), than you are every bit elitist and opinionated as you claim me to be.
