AMD Fx 8320 only running @ 2.91GHz because of MOBO - Will it make a big difference?

Okay so I know that the speed determines each individual core...but will there really be a huge difference between 2.91 and 3.5GHz? :S

your processor should be changing speed all the time . Dropping in to a low power state and running at full speed only when it needs to .

There is no mb an FX processor will run in that will cap the speed lower UNLESS you have told it to

I was under the impression that my 78LMT-S2P was the factor and at the moment I am unaware of my speed having ever changed while gaming/rendering (I've monitored it) to check if it increases :S

Do you have any idea how I'd change the settings to 'unlock' it, so to speak?

In BIOS there will be settings to enable power saving . Some people turn this off because they mistakenly think their PC will be more powerful . It will just use more power .

In software you can open the AMD unified driver or feature manager , and see the speed range your processor is set to operate in .
In Task Manager you can see the speed your cpu operates at moment by moment

It says my CPU power is @ 100% in AMD catalyst :S
So enabling stuff in the BIOS is unlikely to work then?

Enable cool'n'quiet in BIOS , and any other power saving options it may have

Then head back to catalyst . In the cpu power section is it limited to a maximum of 2.9 Ghz?

It seems the CPU is set to run @ full power in catalyst.

I will try changing the settings in the bios when I get home.
