With the upcoming release of the new nvidia pascal cards, gtx 1080 and gtx 1070, there will be a price drop on the 980ti. Now that I plan to upgrade my gpu from a gtx 770 I was wondering if my AMD FX 8320e OC at 3.8 ghz will bottleneck the 980ti.

Solution
CPU bottlenecking:

As said, depends on the program but I can give you an approximate estimate:

0% to 50% depending on the game. Probably closer to 25% average but it varies so much it's hard to say.

Other:
How did you overclock to 3.8GHz?
I ask because it already has a max Turbo of 4GHz. The min Turbo is probably near 3.8GHz already.

It's not clear if you actually OC'd already or not. If not, keep the above in mind. I'd probably spend a bit on a better CPU cooler and OC more if possible but the quality of the motherboard is important as well, and of course it raises the room temperature.

**Did you say up to 50% bottleneck???

You are full of it, friend... I says to myself... (though maybe I should have specified you can get up to...

As for the CPU bottleneck, probably. Depends on the program.

As to the price drop, maybe a little on the retail price, however, retailers will begin to have sales, especially at holidays, to clear out remaining stock. This will be the best times to buy if you don't want the latest gen GPU's. Newegg has sales constantly on many GPU's of different models and brands, but the discount codes are often only for those signed up for the newsletter. If you are in the market for a discounted 9XX or R9 3XX gpu, signing up is a good idea.

You are full of it, friend... I says to myself... (though maybe I should have specified you can get up to 1.5X higher with a better CPU. I'll clarify below...)

THIS is just one example, and I can show worst cases: http://techreport.com/review/28751/intel-core-i7-6700k-skylake-processor-reviewed/9

The FX-8370 (which is about 12% faster than the 8320e) is about 76% the performance.

If I adjust for the 12% to estimate the FX-8320e then we get the best CPU listed here getting a frame rate that is 1.45X here. Or 50% faster almost.
