Hello,

I was recently debating on whether or not to purchase a GTX 780. I currently have a GTX 660 ti and was wanting an upgrade.

My PC Specs:
Mobo: ASrock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
PSU:500 80w PLUS BRONZE
CPU: AMD FX-8350
GPU:GTX 660 ti
RAM:8gb DDR3 1600
Stock CPU cooler

With these specific specs would i be able to run games like skyrim, battlefield 4, and DayZ SA with 60 frames using GTX 780? I also cannot overclock my CPU because i have a stock cpu cooler. Thanks

I've heard a lot of bad things about Thermaltake's PSU's, but its gold certified it probably wont fail, if i were you i would stick to the major companies like antec corsair seasonic or silverstone..
No, it will not bottleneck it. You will definitely be able to get 60 frames in all those games. The GTX780 is a great card, and is a perfect match for your CPU. However a power supply upgrade is probably necessary, a good 600-650W unit would be great. Seasonic makes great units. I have one in my system right now. Just for temperature sake, I would recommend an aftermarket cooler for that CPU, so it doesn't get too hot. I have a Hyper 212 EVO on mine. Cheers!

That processor is a bit of a beast and should work fine with a 780, but when you cross an AMD processor with an nVidia graphics solution, you tend to get a little less FPS than if you were running an AMD equivalent though I could be wrong.

Np man, enjoy your system when you get it, its better than what i got right now, waiting until black friday to upgrade again >.< haha...gl and hope you dont have any part troubles!

A little late once again but i was watching tons of videos on GTX 780 ti and AMD FX 8350's. Tons of people were getting bad frames compared to my current setup. The guy also has his CPU cranked to 4.3 ghz. Idk now im really nervous. Currently i get 45-60 frames on battlefield 4, will i get a constant 60 w/o AA? Just so nervous to spend $860 for no reason

Honestly, in order to reach smooth 60+ FPS for that game, you're going to have to consider a dual card/platform switch and all the pricing and sli issues with it. I personally don't think you should bother as I feel it's a waste of money. I'd tell you to consider SLI'ing a 660 TI but I doubt that 990 boards have been fixed to work properly with SLI. I know I wanted to SLI but didn't waste my time because 990 boards didn't work correctly (not sure about 970 boards). It was months ago but I sincerely have my doubts.

That Thermaltake PSU is an FSP unit. So it isn't all bad internally.

Well on my current setup i get around 45-60 frames w/o AA with a $200 GPU. Even though the game is CPU extensive, a better GPU wont help me out anymore than what i am already getting? I am kind of at a stop as of now. I dont understand why it wouldnt give me better frames. Can someone please explain that. I know i have AMD instead of Intel but is it that much inferior to the point that there is not point in even purchasing the Graphics card?

It is not that inferior. A 780 upgrade will give you a lot more performance. It will give you increased frames at higher settings. So instead of running at 40 frames antialiasing turned off, you could run at a consistent, almost not dropping 60 frames everything maxed out including antialiasing. Also, $680 dollars for the gtx 780? You can get those for around 500-550 at most 600 dollars (USD).

The 780ti has a decent cooler, and the r9 290x's cooler is abysmal. However, you could wait for the non reference coolers for the 290x since AMD has Mantle coming. All in all, they are both good options.
