I recently brought this processor in the hopes of seeing a huge increase in performance, which I have. The only problem is i'm experiencing these huge lag spikes which last for around 10 seconds, then come back within 15 seconds. On games like Rome 2 I'm getting 40 odd fps when fighting a maxed out battle with everything going on. It then drops to around 10 for 10 seconds then shoots back up. I've tried turning the graphics right down to low where I get around 100 fps but then drops down to 60 so it's definitely spiking. This is the same for every game I play, Black flag, ARMA 3, Farcry 3, Theif etc.
The CPU temp sits at 40 in idle and the core temp is the same. When playing games it goes up to 65 to 75 which i'm sure is to hot and therefore causing throttling. The bios is up to date, i've messed around with the fan speeds and nothing like that works.
Could it be my motherboard? I have an Asus ,5A78L-MLX V2. The Asus website says this board will run this CPU but i'm not convince.
My question basically is, do I need a new motherboard and if so what's the cheapest I can get so I can enjoy my games without these infuriating lag spikes
