Hi.. I was building my first pc, and the levers will not latch on to my
Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 Motherboard, it will not reach! I put one end on, then the main one, but the main one cannot reach, I even tried it the other way around. Is this normal?

I have heard of people having to apply great pressure for it to latch on, but this makes no sense to me, should not be this way.

This is a build I got from a popular youtube user, it's exactly as he recommended, so I don't get why attaching the latches should be this difficult..

Any suggestions?

Solution
Alright, I have the Same processor and heatsink, the 8350. This was the first hit when i googled am3+ heatsink won't fit, so I'll post my workaround for my Asus M5A97.
Instead of pressing on it super hard, loosen 2 of the screws holding the plastic heatsink "clamp, clip" whatever you call it, so it's loose on one side. Fit the heatsink on there, and lock the clips.
Then, tighten the screws back on, and the flip the lever. It's held on incredibly hard, but it works.
with them both off wiggle them until they move freely. sometimes they bind under the fan area and won't allow or make it very difficult to latch.

did you raise the arm, install processor and then lower arm again? so processor is seated properly in the socket.

is the lever in the right position after you got them both hooked? .......... so you can then move and lock the locking lever in position.

nvm i FINALLY got it, after hours of trying... ugh. I just had to push pretty hard on it. Really odd that it does not work smoothly don't you agree?

anyway.. Thanks for the reply!

My Amd 8320 standard heat sink, had to remove fan and plastic frame too remove the swivel lock and pull out an 1/8 spacer put it back together, now it works on any of the 7 AMD motherboards I have and it don't feel like the board is going to crack when I install it. replaced it with after market heat sink because of temps , but it works fine on 95w cpu.

I have literally just had this problem with my brothers PC, on a Gigabyte mobo with a FX 8350. The solution is simple!

Unscrew your CPU cooler brackets from the motherboard, attach the cooler to the mounts when its off, and then just screw the mounts back on with the cooler attached - it's a bit fiddly, but its better than possibly breaking your motherboard, or your CPU.

Hope this helps,

Luke

Thank you so much bro. After struggling for an hour, I was legit about to lose it until I found your solution. I cannot thank you enough!:)
