While running some prime 95 test I found my cpu usage going crazy! It was going from 90% to %70 and to %50 and continuing. Then It would repeat its self. What Is causing this 50c on full load even though I cant get it to stay at full load. It gets to about 50c at the max. What is the cause of this? Mobo temps are good as well. I am running on a poor motherboard. So that could be the cause.

I would say it is almost certainly your motherboard. THe motherboard temp the system reports comes from the chipest, but the limiting factor is likely the VRMs which regulate power. If they get too hot they can explode, so they try to limit power flow to avoid breaking at a certain point. If you stuck a thermal prob between them you would see the temps probably very high.

Chances are you need to change motherboards to get better performance, but you can test this if you want first. Go into BIOS and lower the voltage, possibly underclock a little. Reducing the voltage will reduce heat and power draw and should result in less throttling as a result.

Also what motherboard do you have will probably be a good way to know also.

Yes undervolting would help, that motherboard cannot really handle that much voltage.

Even if you drop 200Mhz to undervolt more, if you are throttling at 70% at stock clocks, you are only at about 2.8Ghz, but at 3.8Ghz if you can reduce voltage a fair bit you might get 100% usage and thus have much better performance in general.

I would say this one is a good choice. I typically don't like ASrock, but this is the cheapest one I was able to find with a capable power design in place, and it actually has a lot of MOFSETs so its a really excellent one. Not to mention it has been updated iwth a lot of the newer features like improved audio and the M.2 socket for storage devices.

It looks to be out of stock though, so I will keep looking for another one, but you might be best off to wait for this one to come back in stock, that doesn't usually take more than a few days.

Nice board. I'll add that to the FAQ.

Rather nice list you have kept up also. Think I might keep that on hand encase I need to help someone else pick a board, it would save some time.

I can't help be a little jealous of these AM3+ boards, they keep getting all the latest features and cheaper prices. I've never been 100% satisfied with my ASUS P8Z77-V Pro but finding a decent quality LGA 1155 board anymore, let alone one which can top this board, is hard work these days.
