Hi, all

I have an 8350 and a cooler master Hyper TX3 mounted on top using
Arctic Silver 5 High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound

If I run a CPU stress test, my temperature dials up to 65 degrees and the SaberTooth 990FX does me a favor and cuts power.

I have mounted the TX3 both directions, and can confirm the fan is operating - seems constantly 2250RPM, with not much variability at all.
I clean both the cooler and cpu well, apply compound and then clip her in for the ride...

When running Prime95, the temperature just ratchets up until the motherboard cuts power - less than a minute- at about 80 degrees

What should I be looking at here? New CPU cooler?

that is very interesting. considering 65 degrees isnt that hot... I had a problem like this with my cpu, and what happened, was the cpu cooler wasnt mounted 100% correctly. I assume yours is, but you may have some sort of faulty cooler. Have you considered a closed loop cooler?

The TX3 isn't any better than a stock cooler but the NH-D15 is arguably the best air cooler on the market. My NH-D14 had a strip of plastic at the base of the heatsink, which can be easily missed, so make sure you remove that before mounting the cooler.

The issue with AIO water coolers is that the stock fans and the pump tend to be loud, and whilst you can replace the fans, you can't replace the pump. The performance of an AIO is also entirely dependent on the ambient temperature as the fans intake air whereas an air cooler exhausts it.

This applies to my current situation. Will the Noctua NH-D15 block the ram?

Also check your BIOS. This chip hates Turbo but loves the normal standard settings. It also if you got the right edition, will try to go to 4.1Ghz instead of 4Ghz

Noctura is running great. Does not block the ram with single fan mode on an ASUS 990FX 2.0 .. if you want dual fans, you need low profile ram. Mines been running the same stress test now for 5 minutes -tops out at 46 degrees
