My friend told me to get an fx-8370 with a GTX 980. I want to know if there will be any bottlenecking because to me it kinda sounds like the card is a bit too much for this CPU

Solution
Not a big deal, there will be maybe a 5fps difference between a fx 8370 and a i5/i7 cpu, there will be a notable bottleneck only when you sli that card.

I doubt an 8370 (or 8350 for that matter) will bottleneck any single gpu set up out there. Now people will always say get an intel cpu (sometimes a good idea), however if you're playing at 1080p that combo will crush anything you throw at it.

Oddly enough, it's at 1080P gaming where the "AMD is good enough" argument loses steam, and quickly; this resolution typically allows both cpu and GPU scaling, and the Intel-based rigs will usually have 30-40% framerate leads, and certainly the minimum framerate will be 10-20 fps higher.

(If your gaming will be at 1440P or higher, where the GPU is the primary limiting factor, then the AMD does just fine.

Your fine. fx-8350 or fx-8370 will not bottleneck at all on one card. But if you run in SLI or CROSSFIRE just overclock it to 4.4ghz and your goldin. No need to spend more by going with INTEL I5 / I7. Gaming on Bro.....

It entirely depends on what games you play, Give me a list of games before you make a purchase, CPU performance between manufacturers changes massievly depending on the game

EX: bf4 and crysis use 8 cores, In bf4 fx 8xxx gets like 5 fps below an i7 for 100$ cheaper

EX: in starcraft 2 an fx 9590 (most expensive fx cpu out there) can get beaten by an i3 4130 for a hundred dollars less

Most of the time intel wins though because most games don't use alot of cores

You will not bottleneck but in games that dont take advantage of 8 cores you will have stuttering due to slow single core speed, Not bottlenecking, A true bottleneck is when your jumping from 90 fps to 5 over and over (I had this happen to someone in planetside 2 lol), Not loosing performance due to bad single core speed

Nice XCalinX!! I'm running fx-8370@4.5ghz with two XFX r9 290x 8gb in crossfire. I'm looking for a really good monitor 34 inch size @ 1440p. But really happy with this setup.
