Looking to upgrade my cpu to a AMD FX 8370. Will my motherboard, a gigabyte 970a-DS3P, be compatible with it? Some say it will be fine, some say I will need to update my bios. Would like come info about whether I should purchase it or not. Thanks for the help. :)

I would not recommend that board for the 8370. The VRM setup is not very strong and will only allow minor overclocking. I know from personal experience as I've owned one previously.

The 8370 has a very high TDP. You will need a board that can supply proper voltage to it all times without over-heating.

Opt for a 990fx chipset. The UD3 from Gigabyte is a good board as long as it's version 4.0+

Splitting hairs is so much fun. It's an AM3+ MB - so from a physical compatibility - you are fine. It may be necessary to upgrade your BIOS - but that is a different concern - and a very minor one at that. The biggest question is what your current CPU is and is there enough increase is capability to justify the purchase.

As an aside - if you choose to upgrade your CPU - you may want to pre-emptively upgrade your BIOS if it is beyond a year old. It may save you some headaches.

My current cpu is and AMD FX-6300 and my GPU is a 750ti FTW. I was looking to upgrade later in the year to a AMD FX 8370 and a 970 FTW, but I would like to keep the same motherboard, so all I would most likely need to do is update the bios correct, or would I even need to do that?

I was just looking to upgrade my GPU, but I looked it up and some said they were bottlenecked by the AMD Fx-6300 , while some said they weren't.
