Hi, so I got an amd fx 8370e and today installed it in my rig. It all went quite good, so I opened GTA V and only got 25fps, so I thought to use the OC gene and after that it would just give me blue screen. I have an AMD FX 8370E, Gigabyte r9 380, 16GB corsair vengeance ram, msi 970 gaming mobo, cooler master hyper 212x cpu cooler, hytec 1050 watt psu and a 1TB HDD. Thanks.

Oh dear,

What resolution did you have the game set at?
And what were most of the Graphics settings set to High, or Ultra ?
And what AA or AF or FXAA mode did you have set and the field of view percent.
Plus the scaling percentage.

To be honest if your going to overclock your FX 8370E cpu your better of doing it manually yourself.
Start of by simply upping the cpu multiplier, most boards will allow you to increase the cpu multiplier by half

The factory default core speed is 3.3Ghz, with most Fx based chips you can expect on average to get a 800Mhz maximum overclock.
It depends on two things though how good the cpu has been fabricated and the quality of the silicone die the processor was formed on.

The other is down to what...

The other is down to what motherboard you use and what chipset it utilizes for example a 99FX chipset on a motherboard over a 970a chipset often gives a better and higher stable overclocking of a FX based cpu Isaac.

Ok so your cpu at default frequency should be 3.3Ghz as said. for the cpu multiplier. it should be 200 x 16.5.
16.5 as the cpu multiplier setting.

Move the multiplier value up to x17.

save the settings in the bios before you exit it.
And test to see if the system posts and loads into windows ok.

If it passes.
Then go back to the bios and again set the cpu multiplier to x17.5
Keep doing this until you reach a point where windows fails to load or it crashes in windows freezing ect.

At this point you need to go into the bios but this time increase the cpu core voltage.
By about 0.250Mv increases.
Until the system boots into windows and does not crash or freeze.

Remember the maximum over clock on most FX cpu`s is 800Mhz above the default frequency of 3.3Ghz.
The core voltage of the cpu should not be set over a voltage maximum of 1.5v

So to get the extra 800Mhz overclock if the default FX clock speed is 3.3Ghz the maximum cpu multiplier setting would be x21 at 200Mhz.

There is no guarantee that the cpu will reach that speed as all cpu`s overclock differently it may be less Isaac.
You should aim for a cpu core voltage at 1.4v when set at a x20 or 21 cpu multiplier.

Also keep a close eye on the temps of the 8370E cpu as it will start to rise the faster you push the cpu in Mhz and the more core voltage of the cpu you set.

Solution
Ok, so I pulled out my mobo and pulled out the cpu, reapplied thermal paste and started my pc. It is all working great now, and I have it sitting at 4.3GHZ. I have tried playing games and they are working great. I am getting a solid 60fps in fallout 4, far cry 4 etc. But when I play GTA V I only get 30fps? I play all games on ultra by the way.

I have the same setup. I managed to bump the frequency up to 4.5 on the same voltage. You have to get a really good cooler and then turn off cpu smart protection from bios. That feature throttles cpu when reaching a certain temp. All the forums i go to say that you don't need it when you have a good cooler. As for the 30fps, well you can't max out gtav with your setup. Just leave it on auto detect and hope for the best 😉
