AMD FX 9590 or new Motherboard and i7 or i5? Which is worth the money.

I have a custom Gaming PC already and have had it for awhile.
Specs:
AMD FX 8320
Noctua NH-D14
Asus Crosshair V Formula Z
EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 SC
16GB Crucial Sport (Getting Upgraded Later)

My issue is that I am wanting to upgrade my CPU as it is too old for VR, but I don't know whether I should buy a pretty decent Amd cpu like the 9590 for about $220 or a whole new LGA 1150 or 1151 motherboard and an i7 or i5 cpu. I just don't know whether it is worth it to buy a whole new motherboard and cpu. Any suggestion on which way is the most worth the money, I don't want to spend to much money because I was planning on buy the new Deep Cool Genome case. Thanks for the help in advance.

''Supports CPU up to 140 W ''

https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULAZ/specifications/

I guess asus feels that simple bios update to 220w chip works fine on that 140w spes on there board ?? buyer beware [asus lies/misrepresents a lot these days ] my last asus was my last due to this ''mistrust''

ok I now see the support link for the board is now missing as well ?? so now wheres the supported cpu list and driver pages at ???

i'll also say you may find the 220w way more headache then what you got and its just a ''old'' 8350 on steroids [I feel just a novelty chip]

I think you'd be better off with an i5 or i7. It's a slight investment however over $200 on a 9590 is going to be more of a sidegrade to what you currently have. The 8320, 8350, 9590 etc are basically different factory clock speeds of the same thing. A number of 9590 users end up downclocking to gain stability which defeats the purpose and while overclocking your 8320 can help it's only going to be a moderate increase. Ipc performance doesn't change.

I'm not even sure you need to upgrade your ram unless you're running out of memory frequently, 16gb is a fair amount. You already have a nice cooler, gpu etc and would pair nicely with an i5 or i7. Understandable you want to save money and have your eyes set on a case, nice cases are pleasant to look at. However even if it means saving a bit longer for the case due to being on a budget it comes down to which is more important to you - improved performance or the same performance with a prettier case.

that's how I did - got a [at the time ] z87 and a 4670 and use the memory [ gskill ddr3 1600 2x8 = 16gb ] hard drive [it was less then a year old ] cpu cooler, case , and what ever just pull off the AM3+ build so the ''new'' intel rig just cost 350 bucks for the board and chip and 75 for a fresh copy of 7

and sure cant say it was the wrong move over that AM3+. the intel I enjoy it a lot better and less issues
you could get a nice z97 and do the same and save

Thanks for the responses, I'll wait a bit and pick up a new intel mb and cpu, I realise that AMD no longer has a good range of options and I have heard that the amd 9590 takes up way to much power for little performance compared to the 8370/8350 or the intel equivalents

I word do a hasewll before I would do a limited proprietary got your hands tied skylake .. skylake look like bad news for a end user lots of issues all around

limited cpu choice - no xeon on 100 series - may be forced to 10 only - parts of win 7 been removed to help prevent install on skylake - coolers may damage skylake chips and so and so forth

haswell don't have that and its tried and true - you got to look past the hype through all there smokescreens - and get there wool pulled off youer eyes with skylake and see the light

good luck

good luck
