AMD FX-9590 vs alternatives

I've recently been planning to build my first computer and I'm rather inexperience in the field (not totally incompetent though). I mainly intend to use it for editing (very minimal) and rendering videos using Sony Movie Studio. After some research I've found that the AMD FX-9590 is the probably the most powerful CPU I could afford (if this is wrong please tell me). So if anyone knows of any alternatives that are cheaper or CPU's that suit my computing needs better I would much appreciate any feed back and if you could recommend any GPU, RAM and Hard disk that would compliment the CPU that would be great. Along with a cooling system as I've read the FX-9590 has a heat problem.

Thank you :)

PS My ideal budget would be around £300 (I realise that may not be possible) but can be pushed to around 350

Solution
If you can manage with 240gb then absolutely 100% yes mate without a doubt.

The setup will be sparse inside a full matx case so a smaller ,neater build would be this.

Get the xeon e3 1231 v3, it is basically a 4790k clocked .6ghz lower

Here is a 4790k vs a 9590, And you don't have to spend gob tons on electricity and cooling.

Even a 4690k is better than them in almost every way

For 350 you could even get a 6700k and there is no competition.

the 9590 is basically an old power hungry expensive mediocre CPU that is not nearly as good as intel alternatives, and I am not a fanboy, I readily recommend AMD GPUs and budget AMD CPUs.

Saying the FX 9590 has a heat problem is almost an understatement, it pretty much requires water cooling to run, or at the very least an extreme high end air cooler, either way you're paying about $100 or so just to get a cooler that can deal with the heat. The FX 9590 is also extremely power hungry, and only a small selection of really high end motherboards with the 990FX chipset even support it.

If you really want to go with AMD, you're best off buying the FX 8320 or 8350 and overclocking it yourself if you want more performance. Intel is probably a better option, as for the same amount of money it would cost to get the FX 9590, an appropriate motherboard and a CPU cooler, you could buy a Core i7 based setup that would outperform the FX 9590 while consuming less power.

A cheaper Intel option would be to get the Xeon E3 1231v3, which is a Core i7 with the integrated graphics disabled. It would also outperform the FX 9590 while being cheaper.

When I said 350 I meant for the entire computer but gauging your response I imagine that I am beyond hopeful with that budget and would have to look to much cheaper CPU's

Haha I thought that might be the answer I'm using pc part picker to create a rough idea what do you know about AMD athlon x4 860k? It's a far cheaper alternative? I'm sorry if I sound like I have no idea what I'm doing because I kind of don't

Any suggestions on the next best alternative? I won't be doing any serious editing, I just want fast rendering

You're not likely to get fast rendering at that low a budget if you're buying new. Down at your budget you're looking at Pentiums from Intel and quad core A series APUs from AMD as your most likely CPU options, none of which are particularly fast at rendering. The best cheap option for rendering would probably be the FX 6300, but you have to be careful with the cheap AM3+ boards, as a lot of them have rather weak power systems on them that can cause problem with higher core count FX chips.

Other than that, you'd have to start looking at used hardware, eg. see if there is someone who is looking to unload an old i7 with compatible motherboard from a few years ago, and are willing to part with it for a decent price.

What are the practicality of blowing most of my budget on the CPU and cheaping out on the rest of the components or would this not be a wise move? How important is the video card to rendering as I've read mixed opinions on the subject or is the video card mainly to make editing smoother?

If you're only doing rendering/editing you'll be better with raw CPU power, this would be my recomendation for your budget:

Thanks for all your recommendations guys I do really appreciate it. What would be the best i5 I feel as if most of those are of a good price range and I'm leaning towards Intel on the cpu

Currently the 4460 has the best price/performance ratio in the UK.

With an i5 you will 100% get away without a discrete GPU - you would be far better off with a h97 board though mate.

I know having two storage areas is good for speeding up rendering but why SSD better than the Internal Hard Drive by the looks of it not having an SSD would shave £65 of the total cost?

Would it be better to keep the SSD as opposed to the Internal Hard Disk?
