As is, my computer runs well for gaming and that's all I use it for. There are a few games I can't seem to max out or have to turn down some settings to get a normal fps.

With that said, here are my specs.

Nvidia GTX 780ti
AMD FX 9590 8-core
AMD 3 mobo, not 100% sure on the name.
16th Kingston 1666 ram
3x 1t hard drive
Windows 7

Ive been doing some research and some people are saying that i5 4690k is far better for gaming. If this is true, would it improve my game play in regards to fps.

Mostly having issues with Lords of the fallen, dayz, rust, Metro last light. Games with a high amount of detail. They run good, but not as good as I'd like.

With that said, what would you do to make this computer better and more gamer friendly in regards to performance. I've got about $1800 to work with.

Solution
4690K is a beast for gaming i have my 3570K with a 7950 and i never had problems with any of the games above except for dayz i had to customize the settings in the game files

also do u plan on overclocking if you're getting the K cpu? coz there is also the I7 if u need the 8 threads

not to mention the Xenon aka I7 without the Igpu
It is true, the I5 is better for gaming especially when overclocked. For one thing, you will find it uses a ton less power and heat. The FX 9590 uses a lot of power and is known for its heat, which is of course a barrier when it comes to overclocking even more. The I5 4690K has stronger individual CPU cores, and even though it does not have 8 cores like the FX 9590, the cores are much more powerful and practically all games today still utilize only 4 processor cores. The I5 can carry out more instructions per clock of the CPU due to its higher transistor count and is overall more efficient for better performance. The FX 9590 might be better in terms of video encoding and other hefty 8-core processes but for gaming I5 to the win.

OK, so if I upgraded to the i5 would it give me better performance in game or should I upgrade my GPU as well. I feel like the 780ti should be able to handle just about anything in the industry right now.

Would you recommend that i5 I posted or a different one?

I wouldn't be overclocking since is have no idea where to start when it comes to that stuff so it would be staying as stock.

I hadn't looked at the xeon's closely until today while I was trying to help someone. So many people suggest a xeon as an i7 minus the igpu but that's only certain xeons. There are haswell xeons that fit the 1150 motherboards that are basically just an i5 without the igpu, not all xeons are hyperthreaded like the i7's are. Just make certain if considering a xeon in place of an i7 that that particular model is in fact hyperthreaded.

I think it's the Xeon 1231 if I remember correctly
