Upgrading from AMD fx-8350 to fx-9590 cpu on ASUS sabertooth R2.0 motherboard. Need to know reliability given the cpu has 220w requirement yet motherboard manual says AMD 140w supported. Since cpu came out after motherboard was spec'd, I am thinking the motherboard will work well since it is supposedly mil- spec with heat treatments. I use 750 ps and cpu water cooler. My concerns are overall PC reliability related. All feedback with people knowledgeable with sabertooth or fx-9590 will be appreciated!

this board ?? according to this cpu support list it does 220w chips but how it went from as you say a 140w board to a 220w board with out a board revision is something I cant answer [ maybe asus magic wand ]

Going from a 8350 to an 9590(which is essentially a factory overclocked 8350) is not worth the cost of the upgrade unless you are getting the cpu for free. Just oc your 8350 like rolli59 suggested or if you must spend some money get an Intel(with a new motherboard of course).

bignastyid. You are probably correct but my 8350 just does not do the job well enough. I do not mind the cost for the fx-9590, I just want the performance boost. By the way, I am also replacing my raptor hard drivers in raid 0 configuration with samsung pro ssd in raid 0 configuration. If this does not work out, then my next change will be for the more expensive motherboard LGA 2011-3 with i7-5930k. I do more than game and need top performances for home business that is computure intensive. Thanks however on the cost point of view comment.

If it is really to make money then the LGA 2011-3 move is the right one.

I agree with everyone else who knows how to overclock a CPU. Here is my FX8350 overclocked to 4.5Ghz and keeping it nice and cool is the newest model Corsair Hydro H60.

I also agree with overclocking your current FX 8350 in theory. The problem with the FX 8350 is older ones have the "chip lottery" and newer ones aren't binned well enough to hit the big overclocks. Ever since the FX 9xxx series rolled out the best binned 8350s are 9xxx and the worst binned are 8320s. If you got lucky in the lottery you can hit 5Ghz with FX 8350 usually at or near 1.5-1.55 Vcore. If you didn't get lucky then your not going to get to 5Ghz and may only hit 4.5Ghz even pushing high Vcore. If you have a processor that didn't do well in the lottery and doesn't overclock well I would recommend the FX 8370 over the 9590, and its a good deal cheaper than switching boards and processor to Intel, and cheaper than the 9590.

Like the FX 9xxx series the FX 8370 also gets the best binned chips and with proper cooling will hit 5.0 Ghz with no problem. With my FX 8370 I hit 5 Ghz with 1.44 Vcore and 5.3 Ghz with 1.5 Vcore, never saw the need to see what I could hit with 1.55 as that is pushing farther than I'm comfortable with. The FX 8370 @ 5-5.3 Ghz will actually outperform the 9590, and run slightly cooler (5Ghz @ 1.44 Vcore is a cool operator compared to the 220W 9590).

If you have a big budget upgrade to Intel, if you want to save money and your FX 8350 doesn't overclock well do yourself a favor and go for the FX 8370 over the 9590.
