Hay to all. I've had and built 4 fx systems in the past. This time round I have an AMD FX 9590 chip, I need only recommendations for a good board for it, plus memory name models ect brand. I don't care about power uages ect just need the above advice board and memory. Thanks to all

there are pretty much no boards that can handle the power draw of that chip. i don't believe i have ever seen one that does not have some issues with trying to power it. i'll check again but i'm pretty sure you're gonna want the absolute best AM3 board made and then hope you only have minor problems and not major ones.

There's no many MBs that can stand up to FX 9590 and to find them now after production has stopped, would be a chore and have premium price.
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULAZ/ is one.
From Gigabyte: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-990FX-Gaming-rev-11#ov
From Asrock https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/990FX Extreme9/index.asp
Other options would be a mid range MB like GA-990XA-UD3/UD5/UD7 and keep processor down to about 4.5GHz.if you have a very good cooler. That may be a solution only if you already have all other components like a lot of DDR3 RAM, strong PSU etc.

pretty much what i'm thinking as well. no reason to be buying this stuff new with such better stuff really affordable right now.

was an interesting idea years ago but with even an entry level ryzen 3 beating it out easily on low end parts, little reason to pay a premium for an fx system that is not coming from parts already owned.

Yeah, it would be better to sell the FX chip if you already have it, and go Ryzen instead. The prices I'm seeing on ebay for the FX-9590 are far overpriced relative to the performance you get. $150 for a used 9590? For less than that you could get a brand new 6-core, 12-thread Ryzen 1600 that would absolutely wipe the floor with it...

And even the newer, faster Ryzen 2600X or an 8-core, 16-thread 1700 can be had for what they want for one of these new. Building a new FX-based system doesn't make much sense at this point. Especially since the DDR3 RAM and AM3+ motherboards won't support any of the newer Ryzen processors, which are much faster despite running at lower clock rates.

ASROCK 990FX EXTREME 9 would be ideal if you can find one.

Agreed, but @ $250+ getting this makes far more sense. There is simply no good reason to build around an FX 9590, ever. Even when it was new, it was a horrible buy.

This chart may be helpful:

You can sell that FX-9590 for about $100.

You can get equivalent performance with less hassle using a
r5-1600 or a If-9500F

checkout this article, its probably getting harder/expensive to find these motherboards though.
As for ram it doesn't really matter a whole lot, but the faster the better. Corsair, Gskill, Kingston are all great. On the used market 16gb of decent DDR3 is getting somewhat cheap.

As every else says its not a good use of money when talking about cost to performance, but I assume you have another reason to do the build.

Honestly, I don't think investing in an AM3+ motherboard is worth it at this point. If you really need it, I'd suggest something cheap, and start making preparations to get something else... Something like this;
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

It's not that great quality, but all of the good quality ones are over $150 right now, and then you're better off buying a new Ryzen system instead.

As far as I can tell. There never were any good mATX AM3+ motherboards for high watt CPU. You'll need to go ATX. Even then selection is sparse for new ones and mostly overpriced junk models. You'd need a used one which will also be overpriced.

Cost wise you'll likely be better off selling whatever FX CPU and RAM you have. Then buying a new AM4 board, RAM and Ryzen CPU. Even a lowly Ryzen 1200 can beat an 8-Core FX in most games and daily use. Just not in a few heavily multi-threaded tasks. Plus they are far more energy efficient.

Please can someone Recommend a motherboard, for AM3+. Don't care what make, I need Mini Atx only most be good for cpus upto 180 Watts and have good features ect. Thanks to all

Mini ATX doesn't exist for that wattage. And BTW except for 990FX boards all AM3+ boards are 95w-125w. Again, this is your second thread in a year discussing it, the longer you wait on the recommendations you already have, the harder time you're gonna have, since these boards are LONG out of production. So you're limited to the used market.

Put them on ebay and buy something worth buying.
