AMD FX6100 Overclock Thoughts?

I am wanting to OC my AMD FX6100 to get a bit more performance out of it, as I'm pretty sure it's the current bottleneck in my system. (Along with my outdated motherboard.) I'm not HUGELY concerned about tearing anything up, I'm just investigating the possibility of getting some extra speed until I can afford a new motherboard/CPU pair.

Here are my current specs:

MSI 760GM-P34
AMD FX-6100
Nvidia GeForce GTX760
8GB DDr3 RAM (generic, nothing special)
Samsung SSD 850 Pro 128GB
Western Digital 2TB HDD
600w Thermaltake PSU

I also have a Corsair H110 dual-radiator doing my CPU cooling, so idle temps are about 9C and full load never gets above 25C.
GPU averages 40-46C idle and about 75C at full.

I also want to point out that while I'm a fairly advanced user, I'm not terribly experienced with overclocking yet, so any pointers on new boards/components would be greatly appreciated! I'm basically looking for a rig/OC that I can get maximum bang for the buck on, while taking the most advantage of my current components.

Im not sure if it would be a good idea overcloking on that motherboard (or if you even can) its a budget mobo with an old chipset its not meant for overclocking. A good mobo you can get for it is an asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 thats what i have i got my fx 6350 to 4.7ghz on it. You may want to also consider just saving up to make the swith to intel and not buying another amd board the am3 socket is dead and now more cpu's will be made for it so you will be stuck with whatever amd cpu's are out now like i am.

I'm definitely looking at making the jump back to an Intel-based motherboard and chip, as I agree, the AM3+ seems to have kicked the bucket. (Not to mention, I've heard Intel gets along with Nvidia better than AMD anyhow.)
I'd figured as much when it came to the current motherboard, but wanted to get a second opinion on the OC before I did anything stupid. Would you agree based on the information provided that the biggest bottleneck is indeed my motherboard/CPU combo? I feel like my 760 GPU should be running significantly faster than my old 660, which is what makes me suspicious it's being dragged down by another part of my system.

Oh yes your cpu is definitely a bottleneck especially since its the old bulldozer architecture. Believe it or not i actually have a slight bottneck on my 760 in battlefield 4 and thats with a fx 6350 at 4.7ghz so no matter what you do that fx 6100 will bottleneck the 760 in some games for sure with or without an overclock.

Well, while it's a bummer to know that I've got to say goodbye to my old trusty CPU/board, it's good information to know! -thanks a ton! I'll check out that other board you mentioned earlier and see if I can fit it into the budget.

No problem. Good luck.
