Hey all, been following the site for a while and decided to sign up and start by asking a question..
I am just trying to build a pretty good PC (with none of that overclocking stuff, I'm not techy enough :) ) that can play games quite well and that can also carry out tasks including Office work and interneting. I have already purchased a GTX 760 and am now concerned whether or not the Sabertooth 990fx + amd fx 8350 is a suitable choice. My budget is definitely not a big one!
Also, should I consider the asus crosshair formula z even though I'm not planning on overclocking or doing anything pushy with the components?
Thanks in advance- would really appreciate advice.

the above recommended are great, however if still far from your budget consider these. not equally good in terms of performance but still very capable.

I have that exact combo and I like it but if you are not overclocking then you are putting a lot of money into hardware that you aren't going to get the most out of. If you are sticking to stock speed then an i5 build will save you alot of money and give better performance.
If you want to stay with the 8350 the sabretooth is a great board for it, I wish I had got a crosshair just because they had more liquid cooling blocks for that motherboard but don't think you need to worry about that.

Nope, definitely not a good combo at all.
Certainly not.
Nope.

In all seriousness at this point in time it's probably better to invest in an Intel build. Possibly an i5 if you can afford it. If you don't plan to overclock now, or ever, then you can save a few quid and get the non-'k' version.

With that said though, I think I saw the 8350 on Amazon (UK) recently for super cheap, so it still could be worth a consideration.
All depends on your budget.

As far as the 990FX Formula goes, I looked at that board when acquiring mine, it's pretty much the same as the Sabertooth with a different colour scheme and slightly better on-board audio (Known as SupremeFX). Not worth the extra £40 imo. Unless you have a red build going on. It uses the same power phase (8+2) and for all intents and purposes, similar sized VRM cooler, allbeit at a flipped L shaped angle at the top of the board.

So stick with the sabertooth then? I'm not sure if I need all the fancy extras on the crosshair plus I like the 5year warranty on the sabertooth. It has to be one of those 2 for the fx 8350 black- which I think I will go for as it has more gghz and seems quite good- the 9000 series are slightly more but apparently get really hot, so would the sabertooth house a good cooling system if I did decide to eventually upgrade?
Thanks
Alex
