ISSUE DESCRIPTION:

I'm encountering a persistent issue while playing Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (new 2023) and Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (last new one). Interestingly, older CODs like "Cold War" exhibit no problems. The system crashes intermittently, sometimes after only a few minutes of gameplay, and other times, it lasts up to 2 hours before crashing. Despite numerous troubleshooting attempts, including GPU resets and switching to the second PCI slot, the problem persists. I've monitored temperatures during gaming, ruling out overheating as the cause. This issue has recurred after a period of stability, and I'm seeking assistance in identifying and resolving the root cause. Any guidance or additional information you require would be greatly appreciated.

Where did you source the installers for the games? You might want to use DDU and remove all GPU drivers, then manually reinstall with the latest GPU driver sourced from AMD's support site, in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator.

I have them downloaded on Blizzard Games Launcher. Last night I did a complete wipe of my computer. I also did the DDU thing just to be safe. I just installed the AMD Software to download my new driver. I'm going to try to play and see if anything happens.

Can you elaborate on what you're referring to as crashing? BIOS version for your motherboard?

When I say "Crashing"

I'll be playing and the whole screen will freeze for about 5 seconds and then it will go black with a pop up from AMD Software telling me something on the lines of a Driver Timeout, then a COD pop up tells me it was a DriverX Error.

As far as the BIOS version it's E7C56AMS.1E0 AND BIOS BUILD DATE 07/03/2023

Here is a picture of both pop ups

driver timeout means gpu stopped responding with gpu driver, could be unstable factory overclock, could be daisy chained pci-e power cables, could be faulty pci-e riser (if any), could be faulty gpu

btw do you have above 4G enabled in bios?
Yes, and I did full reseat and I have put a RTX 4090 into this system and have not crashed once, do you think there could be a issue with this card?

I would say that the GPU is defective. I have a similar setup to yours (5800X3D & 7900 XTX) and I can play Starfield all day at 4K Ultra without issues (which is WAY more demanding than COD). If this was a common thing, everybody would already be talking about it (because of how popular COD is) but nobody is.

Since everything worked immediately when you switched cards, I would say that you should replace your XTX because it should just work like mine does. I had no issues and everything just plays as it's supposed to. That's the experience that a non-defective card gives. Problems like you're getting are guaranteed to be caused by something wrong with your XTX's hardware.

My gaming friend, I have the answer! I have the same issue. None of the b.s. listed above works. I have Rx6750xt. This fix is Super simple. Manually undervolt your card. This worked perfect for me. And I've also noticed fantastic fps stability. Good luck. Please inform me if you get same results. Our pc's are simply too strong for the game.

I think the problem is not a bad gpu. It is not that there is not enough power. Turn down i.e. undervolt manually and cod mwiii begins to work flawlessly. As far as cod goes, the game is too weak for amd.

I don't know what you're talking about but COD runs far better on Radeon than on GeForce. How can a game be too weak? (HINT: It can't)

Just look at any Daniel Owen card review video on YouTube in the last four months and you'll see that Radeons have a rather sizable advantage in COD games.

I have a 4090 with a 1650w power supply, 64gb of ddr5, and an intel 13900k with a gigabyte z790 aorus masterx. I was pulling my hair out on why call of duty kept crashing but none of my other games are crashing..

*PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU'RE HAVING ISSUES LIKE I WAS*

1.Call Of Duty with our builds does not like XMP or overclocking of any kind. Disable both.(if you want the game to run).

2. Make sure you exit out of overwolf, icue, synapse, or any other programs that try to take priority. NVidia or AMD software is fine.

3. Make sure everything is updated, windows, the game, your game drivers.

4. Open up your task manager by pressing CTR+ALT+DEL.

5. In your task manager *before opening the game* go to Details. Make sure Agent.exe (for battlenet and all of the battlenet processes are set to normal priority. To do this, right click on the .exe and you will see an option called Set Priority.

6. After you do that, you can open the game, once the game is loading press Alt + Tab and go back to task manager.

7. In the Details section go to COD.exe, right click the process and set the priorty to HIGH. ALSO DO THIS FOR THE CRASH HANDLER BELOW IT.

8. After that, go into your setting in the game, and set it to borderless window and then set your recommended to graphics.

This has worked with me every time. I know its a pain, but if you want to play, you need to do these steps every time before starting the game. I hope this works for you like it worked for me.
