amd graphics card will not go above 1080p!!!

i only use nvidia and so i know nothing about amd but i have a monitor that does 1440p with my hdmi and never have had a problem but i got a graphics card for my brother and am testing it and i cant get it to go past 1080p. its a radeon 6950. the specs says it can go to 2560x1600. is there something im missing???? please help. not a lot of info on the web about this.
 


thats probably it. ill try it later today. the dvi cable isnt at my place. cause i have the latest drivers and all
 


Yeah should be fine, needs to be a dual link dvi but most are these days.

As far as I know all the HD6950s shipped with dual link DVI.
You may of heard of this: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/159 If you're playing around with the card you might want to give this old trick a try.
Be aware, flashing doesn't work on every card, if yours is a later revision it almost certainly will not work. And DON'T flash to the full HD6970 specs, just unlock the shaders (if possible), the HD6970 used different memory specs, quite a few fried their cards as a result of flashing to full HD6970 specs.
